 Tiger is much too smart to play an unapproved ball in Tournaments. The
original SI article read like the writer had no knowledge of the
existence of the Conforming Ball List.

Playing a practice round with a ball not yet on the Conforming Ball
List doesn't mean he used it in tournaments. Apparently Nike is playing
some marketing games putting One Gold markings on the still secret One
Platinum balls and then telling the world Tiger is playing with a new
ball. There are One Golf balls on the list with and without the TW logo
so Tiger does have his own approved balls.
