Longest "Tour" golf ball - Opinions?

JP Jones 8 April 2005 21:58:49
Deciding on my ball for this season and it's between:

Nike One Black
Nike One Gold
Callaway HX Tour
Titleist Pro V1x

Which one do you think is the longest in all conditions?
Does it sacrifice spin and control?
Are there any other balls even better or just as good eg.
the new Hogan, Srixon, Precept or Maxli?

I played the Callway HX Tour last year and loved it but if
there's a better, longer ball I wanna know about it!

It's gonna depend. For me, the V1 was longer than the V1x when I did a
launch monitor session this winter. The tradeoff between all of them will
depend on how you strike them.

If you're serious, buy a sleeve of each and test them in a launch monitor
session.

JP, it seems to me that if you can tell the difference between balls,
and if there is any big difference between them, and if you can make
good use of the differences between balls, then you do not really need
our advice.

No offense intended here, JP, but your post makes it sound like you have
your game pretty much together. Is a ball that gives you an extra yard
or two going to make a major change in your game?

Cheers Lee O.

I've been playing the HX Hot of late and really like it ........
better than the Pro V1.

On average, I lose about two balls for every three rounds. So I'll
purchase a sleeve of Bridgstones, HX Tour, and 2005 Pro V1x and within
a month, I'll have an idea .........

More than likely, the result of the anlysis will demonstrate that I
have no business putting that much emphasis on which ball I use.

Just like I getting the best deal on a product, I want the get the best ball
out there. Of course I can go out and trial them all myself but I was
also interested in what others thougt, especially good players who have
moved from one ball to another.

There may be a longer ball, but not one that will stop on the green.> Besides, unless you are hitting it dead straight (like me!) a longer> ball> will just get you further into trouble.>

By the way....

How's the new Driver?

That's probably the reason the V1x is longer, higher launch and lower spin
rate. When I switched from the V1 to the V1x, I picked up 10+ yards off the
driver with no noticeable loss in feel or bite off the irons.

during the launch monitor session I hit the ProV1x an average of 14yds
longer than any other ball tried...was enough for me to switch :)

What is your driver swing speed?

don't know about McHamish...but I also switched to the ProV1x. Mine CHS with
a driver is 98 mph and my ball speed is 142...
Dave
ps: my clubhead speed has increased 11mph in over the last year due I
suppose to working out regularly

I have no idea. If I had to guess, I'd say around 100 mph under playing
conditions. A guy I play with has one of those speed sticks. I can hit 105
with it, but that's not the same thing as hitting a driver to a fairway.

That would be whichever is easiest to find.

that's not what the Titliest guy told me...he said the ProV1x was for people
with high ball spin rates, like me (95mph clubhead speed +/-). If you hit
any ball with the optimum launch angle and spin rate THEN all that matters
is ball speed at impact (which is created by club head speed for the most
part), again according to the Titliest guy (Science Van Team Member: Grant
Callahan)

Yes, the higher the speed, the bigger the payoff in terms of distance.
Supposedly, there is an exponential distance gain at tour swing speeds.
