So much for the "switch coasts" movement.
This is highly unusual for any time of year here in Orlando. It almost never rains at night nor in the morning. This is an aberration. Most of our spring and summer showers come in the late afternoon and never last more than an hour. To get two to three inches in one day is amazing for this area.

Oh, it rains at night alright. There was a time when I lived and died by the exact weather patterns. It definitely rains at night. I've gotten caught in them more than once too. But this much rain in March, all at once, that's not real common.

Yeah, long days used to be more uncommon. They seem to becoming more common these days. But as long as I've lived here, the thing I dreaded the most was rain in the summer around noon. It usually meant it was going to rain again about 5:00 pm, and the humidity was gonna be BRUTAL.

I must sleep through it, because I have lived here for 15 years and at least over here in Dr. Phillips, it just doesn't happen. I used to work at LMCO, by the way, in EIS.

The weather pattern was something you could once set your watch by. It has definely changed the past few years, though. I remember for many years being on I-4 coming home from work and BOOM right at 4:30 the rain and lightning would fly. But again, I just don't remember much precipitation at night.

And you would be waiting for that rain, wanting the relief from the humidity. Sometimes you could set your watch by it. I didn't play golf when I spent some Augusts with that weather.

It really sucks. From April to about June I can squeeze in alot of golf after work with the long days and all. But come June and July, the rain in the afternoon (okay, it's really the lighting) basically screws ya. I always wanna scream in July when I'm trying to finish 18 on some Saturday and some 4some is poking along about 3:00. You can see AND HEAR the storms coming, but they just keep pokin' along.

That seems to be changing, Doug: since the hurricanes there has not been the kind of weather we enjoyed here in the past. Bummer. Rain all day today, and dreary.

snip -- you can add mention of the lightning here, too... the lightning capital of the world. During the fires here in 1996, overnight reports during the crisis it was not uncommon to register 18,000 lightning strikes in 24 hours. That was the week of the 4th of July.
