Help! Driver Woes

Crelox 9 March 2005 09:09:06
After some reshafting and experimentation, I have come up with the
following results. I think the problem is with swing mechanics but
want some other opinions and help. Here's what's going on...

I reshafted a TM580 with a proforce 65, a GBB2 with a proforce 75 both
at 9.5 degrees. Both shafts are at 44.5". I also have a steelhead 3
at 43.5" 9 degrees with stock steel uniflex shaft. Went to the range
and found that the TM580 didn't work well for me. Got too quick with
it, lot of snap hooks. Slowed down, and got a straight but low ball
flight. Too low. GBB2 was a little better, the heavier shaft was a
bit better. The steelhead (with lower tee height) I was puring on
most shots and able to better work the ball. I also have a steelhead
plus 3 wood at standard length, and also with stock steel shaft, and I
am really good with this club also. I found that if I concentrated on
keeping the clubhead to the outside, and a low sweeping takeaway with
the GBB2 things got much better, but my consistency was less with this
club compared to the SH3. Is it the shaft/weight characteristics or a
swing mechanics flaw? I am 5'8"...is it the length of the club?
Swingweight of tm580 D1, GBB2 D4, SH3 D2, and my irons (mp-33) are
D1.5. Total weight of TM580 314g, Gbb2 325g, SH3 360g. Thinking the
heavier club may be making a difference in keeping the club low and
outside and keeping me slower in the swing? Any suggestions on what I
can do with the graphite dirvers to help myself. Would like the
greater forgiveness of the larger heads. My irons/wedges are great,
just the driver giving me problems. I tend to have an aggressive,
hitters swing as well if that helps. Usually do not come OTT with my
irons. Would I be crazy to shaft the GBB2 with a DG steel shaft? Just
confused but I have the feeling that the lighter weight is letting me
come more OTT but swinging slower/easier doesn't seem to help.
