I have an impact also. I have it stuffed with a bunch of old towels and dishrags. It is stuffed to the point where I cannot fit any more in. It tales a lot to get the bag to move, but with full swings it will still shift.
I don't believe that the purpose of impact bags is to do full swings. It is rather to reinforce a feeling, the feeling of the hands leading with a square clubface. I like to use my bag with half swings. And with the club pushing against the bag to rienforce the feeling.
It is a great training tool. I should probably use it more than I do

Another good reason to do your impact training with dowels!! I believe Lowe's is running specials on the Lynn Blake signature model this week.

I've never used one so if you could explain;
How would the feel differ from a square clubface to an open or closed clubface?
I can see how the feeling of the hands ahead of the club can be felt but, unless the face was extremely open/closed causing the club to twist, a slightly out of alignment face would be tough to gauge. Again, I've never used an impact bag and am curious to see what kind of results I might get if I had one.
" Again, I've never used an impact bag and am curious to see what kind of results I might get if I had one. Thanks,
Tom" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom, I'm using my impact bag to improve my "timing". I want my hands and armswing to be in sinc with my body rotation and hip and leg drive on the downswing. I restuffed mine with old towels and took out the pillow stuffing which was too light. Now I can feel the bag staying in place when I hit it. I have wanted one for a long time. I'd like to find out who first thought of this idea and where the earliest reference to an "impact bag" can be found in golf books.

I don't know who claims to have invented it, but AJ Bonar told me about the idea back when he was in college at Kent State in the 1960's. He used his laundry bag stuffed with clothes. Prior to that, as kids just messing around on summer nights, we'd swing old 2 irons into a tire casing. You're on the right track, Joan. It's a very good drill for improving timing as well as strengthening the hands and rotational core muscles.
