downhill lie - please help!!!

Go Raptors! 5 March 2005 23:54:50
looking for some help from the knowledgeable people here.

play golf in beautiful british columbia, and alot of
uphill/downhill/sidehill lies as it's very mountainous around
vancouver .... uphill seems very easy and make great contact. sidehill
haven't given much thought, as surprisingly i don't encounter it
alot............ but i've figured out that downhill lies (and alot of
subtle ones) are a huge leak in my game.

does anyone have any advice on downhill lies??? i've read conflicting
advice on forward or back in stance (dependent on club, but i mean up
or back relative to flat lie)... also, do you really want to get down
to the ball and take a divot or do you want to sweep the ball more?? i
could see either being good advice, especially dependent on the grade
or severity of the slope.

Go see your pro. The advice you will get here is worth exactly what you will
pay for it.

RSG
How to fix a broken club: yes.
Which stand bag goes best with your outfit: yes.
Got an opinion on Duval, Lefty, or Tiger: yes
How to regrip you irons: yes.

How to hit a ruthless, mutherf*cking, unforgiving downhill lie, with a bet
on it: not here son, this aint the place

You will thank me later.....

Now go see the Pro.

Same here, I just don't think RSG can do it justice. I don't think the
answer is the same for every golfer either. what works for you might not
owrk for me and vice versa...

Narrower stance and easier swing for better balance works for me.

My number one tip for downhill, sideways, and uphill lies is to find a hill and
practice these. Driving ranges usually don't help at all. My driving range
though has a sand bunker next to it that has the required slopes.

You will get answers from people who are good with these lies. Follow their
tips - but find a place to practice them!

That advice was worth more than he paid for it.

I follow Jack Nicklaus' lessons for lies. And they work for me. Here
is what he says:

Ball farther back in stance, because the ground comes up fast.

Choke up (and therefore choose an appropriate club), because the ground
comes up fast.

Aim left, because the ball is back in your stance.

Try to hit a draw, because you are making contact with a club in a
place in your swing where you are usually making later contact.

Hips to the right, because they will try to move left on the downswing.

Body parallel to the ground (i.e. tilt left), because that's the way it
should be when swinging.

Smoothness, not power, because power will tip you off-balance.
