Darkside Qualifications

Tom K 22 February 2005 06:07:15
Just what level of expertise qualifies one for Darkside Status?

Is re-gripping multiple sets enough? I've done that. Do I qualify? Maybe
with a Jr. Membership?

Does one have to have done shafts? Haven't tried that one yet.

Making your own Light Saber? (Long time ago... far, far away)

--Tom <--- definitely has darkside tendencies.... just not the equipment in
the basement (yet)

You're definitely in the Apprentice stage.
Does one have to have done shafts? Haven't tried that one yet.
Yes, oh yes. And you have to have spent too much on tools.
Lots of tools. Must have more tools. Tools. Yeah, tools. Bring on
the tools.

No balls and a flaccid shaft are the only two prerequisites. You're a
shoe-in.

I have re-gripped lots of clubs but I only recently went to the GolfSmith
basic club building class. Now I have a new driver (Integra VS 88 450cc
head and an off-brand green shaft labeled Power E= mC2) and a partially
finished set of irons (Argus heads and Rifle 4.5 shafts, D1 SW). (Partially
finished because I only have 3 double shaft-head clamps.)

Oh yeh - then there is the new Dremel rotary tool with 218 gizmos, the spine
finder, the GolfSmith club measuring thingy, 2 dozen grips and the large
role of 2" double sided tape, a micro torch, gobs of emery paper and sanding
blocks, the medium bottles of epoxy, a can of acetone and a 7 inch chop saw.
And I am on the make for a 1 inch belt sander. And a shaft puller is on the
way via eBay... And I cleaned the workshop for the first time in a year.
Love those tools!

And the Golf Works Maltby hollow iron heads are calling my name!!!!

PS: My buddy wants me to build him some new irons... The siren song is
sounding!

Drive 200 miles out of your way going to your mother-in-law's funeral to
pick up a new grip gauge at Golfsmith.

If you feel the pull, you qualify.

Is re-gripping multiple sets enough?

You're confusing symptoms with cause. But mulitiple sets? You qualify.
I've done that. Do I qualify? Maybe> with a Jr. Membership?

Have you been tempted to do more? If so, you qualify.
Does one have to have done shafts? Haven't tried that one yet.

So you're thinking about it. You qualify.
Making your own Light Saber? (Long time ago... far, far away)

You're in the wrong newsgroup for that. But since you're confusing
light saber making with golf club making, you qualify.
--Tom <--- definitely has darkside tendencies.... just not the equipment in > the basement (yet)

Ah, equipment.

Ah, equipment.>

The above exchange is an example of Darksider Recruitment Techniques. Lure
them in with friendly discussion. Offer a few tips on equipment. Tell them
they qualify.
There should be a law against these things.

Mike and Peter would get the maximum sentence. We'd have to enforce an >>>Omerta (code of silence), with informants ending up sleeping with the >>>fishes. Or have his knee caps busted with a five iron (DG X300).>>
How much did you tip the X300???>>

Yeah Warden, I'm just going out to test my new set of clubs. I'll be back >>by dark.>>
Talk about cruel and inhumane PUNISHMENT. You gotta make the clubs... but > can't try them out.>

What do you think I do all the time? :)
