Golf and GPS

Phoxie 14 October 2006 19:40:25
GPS is great to have on the golf course

I've wanted a GPS device for golf since January and finely got a great deal
a HP iPAQ hw6500 on eBay. I'm currently using Intelligolf and it's great
for tracking scores and tracking how far my clubs go as well as always
knowing the distance to the flag or how far it is to carry a hazard.

I'm wondering if any other golfers are using GPS when the golf and what
programs they're using.

I have been using Sky Caddie also and find that it does a good job of> providing accurate distance information to the pin as well as hazards.> I particularly appreciate the measurements to water and the remaining> distance to the green. I've got a question for SkyCaddie users. I use the iGolf GPS Caddie which I
chose over SkyCaddie because of total cost of ownership and the fact the the
iGolf device supports more user defined points than does SkyCaddie.

However, I have noticed that the iGolf device has the somewhat irritating
tendency to occasionally just "drift out there" by 10-20 yards for maybe 15
seconds or so before kind of 'fixing itself' and once again giving the
correct yardage. There are both WAAS and Stabilization settings, and maybe
there is some combination that will fix this. But I haven't found it. Does
the SkyCaddie do this?

This doesn't make the iGolf device unusuable in my mind, but it does make
you need to kind of pay attention more than I would prefer.

Thanks.

dave

hi Dave, my SkyCaddie had never "wandered" that I've noticed. What I do
enjoy is when my playing partner, who is to flupping cheap to buy a GPS
device, asks me for a yardage, then after mishitting his shot complains
to me about its inaccuracy :)

I have the same config with a Holux Bluetooth GPS receiver to connect to
my PPC phone (O2 Exec - http://www.gsmarena.com/o2_xda_exec-1279.php)
running Intelligolf. Thing is I enjoy the gadgets as much as the game, I
already own a Bushnell rangefinder. ;P
