I don't envy her. My wife had a back problem that we thought was muscular
in nature until we finally got an MRI done in November. It turned out that
she had such a severely slipped disc that they scheduled her for immediate
surgery and she was laid up for about six weeks. However, the good news is
that the surgery went well and the pain relief was immediate and she's got
pretty much her normal (albeit low) strength back.

Is your wife going in for surgery or is it something that they can somehow
treat some other way?

They're wait and see; if she's better today then they'll probably give her
PT and lay her up through the weekend. Seems like she is; she says it still
hurts, but it's not excruciating, only achy.

In most cases they don't do surgery anymore. They only do it if the MRI says
they should. Primary course of treatment is pain medication, exercise,
weight loss, and stretching.

Yeah. That's what they tried with my wife for, well, 2-3 years, depending
on what point you start counting from. It was only when the pain was
getting freakishly bad in November and keeping her awake at night that
someone finally said "Hey, maybe we should get her an MRI." (I'd been
wondering aloud about that for years.) And the MRI showed a disc so
severely herniated that even *I* could say "Whoa!" She went in for surgery
almost immediately. It turns out that if they'd waited much longer she
might well have wound up paralyzed.

Your wife has already had an MRI?

Nobody's asking you to. National health care is> just for people who can't afford anything better.>

This is bait, right?

Kokopeli was cut from the Baylor football team for saying...
The wife has one.

Oh my...sorry to hear that. What's the plan for rehabilitation?
