In other words, you've never been to the Preakness.

Mint juleps taste horrible.

(then again, black-eyed susans aren't much better.. blech)

Are there nekkid hawties in the infield in Kentucky?

The Preakness and the Belmont are mere pretenders. There is only one> Kentucky Derby.

Yes, it's the most prestigious (and i grew up 35 miles from pimlico), but
it's also the one least likely to be won by the best horse. They let 20
horses enter and it becomes a cavalry charge with too much chance of getting
pinned hopelessly in the crowd or swung outside, etc.

Though that didn't happen today - the steinbrenner colt's wood run is
looking like a fluke.

Agree with this 100%. I love to ride.

Best time I think I ever had on horseback, we were at a family outing
type thing.. and it wasn't trail riding, it was open field. My father's
horse stepped on a tree limb and it snapped loudly.. my sister's horse
FREAKED and took off like a bat out of Hell. I got to run my horse at a
full gallop to catch up to hers and grab the reins to get it to stop.

Straight out of some tv show.. and it was FUN. Probably could have
gotten myself killed, but it was FUN, dammit. Yeeeeha!

I'm not so sure about that last part. The Kentucky Derby separates the
three year old pretenders from the actual contenders every year. The
favorite rarely wins. Looks to me like Spanish Chestnut did his job setting
a blistering pace and burning Bellomy Road out.

If I was the boss of that team I'd hold Bellomy Road out of the Preakness
and aim for the Belmont. And looking ahead a month I'd peg Bellomy Road as
the favaorite along with Afleet Alex (who is the real top horse of this
crop).

Too many horses tried to keep up with the rabbit.

yep, they got whip-sawed. but in a cavalry charge it's tough to avoid that,
because if you don't go after the rabbit you could end up buried in the huge
pack.
