They're gonna have to score about 45 points a game to win anything next year. I know you can't pass a guy like him up, but boy is their defense stinky.

Yes and yes. Was there defensive "value" there? Not really - or at least nothing as good as Rodgers could turn out. But yeah - a safety would be nice - as would some linebackers. Another cover too perhaps - oh - and can the Pack also get some down linemen?

It probably means Favre won't play beyond this coming season and they>had to take Rodgers. Also, is a decent safety really so hard to find?. Brian Russell had 8>or 9 interceptions a couple of years back but he is struggling to get a>big contract. Unless there is a great safety like Reed or Sean Taylor,>there is no point in taking one in the first round, is there?
Oh - I certainly agree - that's why I like this pick - Favre's replacement at superb "value" esp relative to the D players available. Sure, you'd like to get a safety - Shazor might be worth a look!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - but if there isn't one at that range, silly to take.

Actually I heard new defensive coordinator Jim Bates say that this is>the deepest DL he has ever coached, with the best talent he has had>inside.>
Basically he said that the previous coach sucked, these guys are>talented, and they will play hard for me.>
That's why you saw LBs and DBs picked and why they've picked up two>safeties in free agency.
I read that as well - and frankly was stunned.....let's just say that if he's right, then he'll be a shoo-in for D coach of the year and I'll be extremely happy. But until I see some better production, it's just coachspeak
