[a Veep] didn't backfire. They just didn't matter.

1972: Only state McGovern wins is his Veep's.

1976: Veeps carry both states.

1980: Of six states Carter wins, one is his Veeps. The Nixon Veep state wins too.

1984: Only state Mondale wins is his Veeps.

1988: Bush Veeps wins his state, Dukakis Veep can't win republican TX, or much else.

1992: Veeps carry both states.

1996: Bush Veep can't hold NY, no surprise.

2000: Veeps carry both states.

Thanks for playing!

He's a fake, through and through, my lad. His dad was a U.S. Senator from
Connecticut, he went to school at friggin' Yale, and when he retired, he
retired to Maine. He ain't Texas. He's just a Texas wanna-be.

ummm...I'm thinking that his Veep had less to do with him winning it> than the fact that it is traditionally one of the two or three most> liberal states in the union. next.

Which of course explains why all the other liberal states went
to Nixon. I'm thinking you have no plausible explanation why
that one state went to McGovern despite a historic landslide.
1976: Veeps carry both states.>
the democrat VP carried a democratic state and the republican VP> candidate's home state was ........Kansas!!! Next.

What you won't find is evidence the veep doesn't matter.

Again you've got minnesota, which was more democratic then than today,> and I'm guessing you mean Reagan's VP won his home state which> was.......Texas!! Next.

Granted there were only six liberal states in 1980...
1984: Only state Mondale wins is his Veeps.>
Geraldine Ferraro is also from one of the most liberal states in the> union. Next.

HOW COME THE MOST LIBERAL STATE IS ALWAYS WHERE THE LIBERAL VEEP IS FROM?

And without Clinton, they lose TN. Without Gore, they lose by more.

Nah, just in a hurry. Feel free to verify the veeps state results,
if you are capable, and then continue ignoring established
political science.
But you're right that it was no surprise.>

I'm glad you see the trend now(hell you even stated it yourself). You> didn't give a single example where a VP shifted a state from one column> to the other. And you managed to incorrectly identify who the nominee> was twice.

You don't have any argument or case for the veep-is-important
being false, and I have a strong case that the veep carries states
despite serious problems with the prez. Ergo the veep is important,
more so in states than can go either way (hello Minnesota).

George H.W. Bush is from Connecticut.

Having his residence in that liberal a state would have accomplished
nothing, ergo the logic in him moving to the South/Texas supports
the claim that a veep is important. Good lord, Chaney was even
attacked for his obviously strategic move to Wyoming.

Anyone who thinks Quayle didn't hurt Bush needs to have their head
examined. Either veeps matter or they don't. Sometimes they matter
more than others, but as usual, mianderson's blanket statements are
BS. "Conservatives don't support Powell." Well, I'd like to know who
the hell does then.

He retired to Houston. He's also an Astros season ticket holder.
