....you make the choices you do. Why life leads you where you are. Just getting philosophical for a moment.... looking at the last six months of my life and all the changes that have taken place. I left my church (shuddup, ya crunchers), I finished out my amazing job contract with nothing in the wings, did some substitute teaching, took a crap job that has done a 360 with my life at half the pay and *less than* half the mental stimulation. I asked my daughter to compare Mom of today from Mom of six months ago in my last job. The line-up was nothing positive.... a list a mile long of obvious changes in me, and I'm trying to find the purpose in why I took this job, save for the paycheck.

I always start my evaluation of jobs with:
1) odds of developing super powers as a result of on-the-job exposure to dangerous chemicals, radiation, or forces beyond my comprehension

hey peach....
i did the same thing a few years ago. I went from a high paying, hugely mentally stimulating, interesting job with horrible hours to a lower paying, not mentally stimulating at all job with great hours. I sometimes question my decision (especially when trying to pay bills) but mostly I am glad I made the change. I can take my son to his practices and his games where I have the time to be team mom. I am there after school which will be important as he approaches his middle school years. In the long run, it will be worth it.

1) You can only do what you can do. You had to make the best choice you could based on the information you had available at the time. Hindsight shouldn't affect things, because that only causes regret and guilt.
2) It's a good thing that you asked your daughter, and it's a good thing that she was comfortable enough with being honest with you. Although I would question "nothing positive", since she could be looking at it ONLY from the negative standpoint and unintentionally not giving you a true reading.
3) Move on from this point, based on the information you have available now.

I don't know if I buy into that fully. If you are in a crap situation, how can you be expected to have a good attitude? I would say it's all about the choices you make ("life is what you make it"), not your attitude. But if you make good choices and still have a bad attitude, then it is your attitude.

I've worked a reasonable number of jobs between volunteer work and my career - I've taught computer classes, done light construction, programmed, done chip design, computer administration and maintenance, a few food service jobs...
I've just decided that I hate work, I don't think it much matters what it is - if it is a job, I hate it and only tolerate it because I have to pay my bills.
Joel, all our cats are fat except the new one, China. She's only got one eye so maybe she can't see her bowl. They're all on special diets. One of them, Batman, is diabetic and has to have insulin shots twice a day. My wife and I are getting really good at it, can stick him on the run! But we've got them on RD (reduced diet) which you can only get at a vet's. They seem to like it and we've seen some weight loss.

Work can on occasion be enjoyable. Work as a whole is not. The fact that I have to do it every day and can't choose when I want to and don't want to do it ruins any possibility of enjoyment.
