Sounds like the chances were boosted because of the law that said criminals had to be brought into court not in handcuffs, so as not to attempt to influence the jury as of guilt. What a moronic law.

I'll wager that law gets changed post Hasty.
Not sure it would have helped. Nichols overpowered the deputy in a holding area while he was changing clothes, not in the courtroom.
The absurdity of the situation was leaving a 6'1", 200 pound athletically-built man alone with a 5'2", 120 pound female (a grandmother, for crissakes).
the problem is with> only assigning one deputy to supervise, and a very> slightly-built and easily overpowerable one at that.
What are the odds that that she was hired under some kind of "affirmative action" plan, and/or was allowed to pass her physical tests under "gender normed" standards?

What are the odds that having an expanded labor pool has more often been beneficial than detrimental?
If AA just means making sure we advertise our jobs to all communities, so that every possible qualified applicant is aware of the opening and apply for it, then of course it's a good thing.
But when it means giving "preferences" to some applicants over others - like for example letting a female applicant to a deputy job pass her physical by lifting less weight or running a distance in less time than the male applicants are held to, just so we can hire more females than we have in the past, it's always and obviously a retarded thing.
