Dealing with people cynicchat

Bill Lang 9 March 2005 07:38:34
Everyone knows the custommer service mantra:

Rule 1: The customer is always right
Rule 2: If the customer is wrong, see rule #1.
Rule 2a: If the customer is a friggin idot who hasn't been right
twice in his pitiful existence, see rule #1.

It has occured to me that if it weren't for the hourly application of
Rules 2 and 2a, there would be no need for Rule #1.

Rule 1a: The customer must be made to feel he/she is right....even
when he/she is wrong.

Unnecessary. The customer knows the mantra as well and automatically
knows they're right.

A cynics Rule 1a would be: The customer should feel special even
though all that matters is the ~$20k they're going to spend on dining
out in their lifetime.

Someone needs to remind me of these rules when dealing with my boss. I can
tell I haven't had a boss in over eight years. I am afraid I may get fired
because of my mouth.
