Yeah, not knowing jack about this issue, I'll agree as well based on what
the article says. We need more Slick and less Buck Rogers.

I would have thought that close air support still comes in handy on

Regardless, it STILL shows that the Air Force does NOT require a close
base.

On the other hand, in that case, didn't they wind up having to fly all the
way around Spain and France because they wouldn't let the F-111s fly over?

France yes...I can't remember about Spain.

But doesn't that just show even MORE ability to strike from a
distance?

(The Navy wouldn't be going through France or Spain either.)

No...again...they couldn't do it from the states..and they couldn't do the
strike without support of air craft based around the Med (or in the case of
the Navy...ON the Med).
(The Navy wouldn't be going through France or Spain either.)>

Wouldn't need to. Plus the Navy could have done follow on strikes as needed
Ad Hoc day and night around the clock if needed from as close as desired.

I definitely think we need to sink a few billion more into the Osprey, or
something like it. We need the ability to deploy troops fast to the front
and land them safely, w/o crashing. The "not crashing" part is fairly
important, I hear.
