Lets hope not. To me, the Vikes are one of those teams that are part and> parcel of their region . Like the Packers.>
Yes, 100% true.
I mean, come on. How far does this team have to swing in its character? Remember when we were still outside? I have pictures of Page and Eller, standing outside, snow falling, breath coming out of their mouths. Ok, so NOW we have the might Purple Helmets, but they're inside. Next? The might Purple Helmets standing next to palm trees? By the beach? Oh yeah, now THAT certainly conjures up what one envisions as Vikings eh?
There are other cities like Portland OR, San Antonio, Raleigh-Durham> and Memphis who have expressed an interest in having an NFL team or> submitted an expansion application the last time around.
There are lots of places that'd like a team. That doesn't mean they have the potential business and fan support base to support a team.
... expansion is inevitable
At some point, yes -- just not soon IMO.
There is IMO enough talent out there that the NFL could add> two new teams every five years without the overall quality dropping> off.
Okay, the last expansion was five years ago. Is there enough talent on NFL rosters to make two teams that would be legitmate contenders? I doubt it.
The owners (as a whole) don't seem to understand that with> expansion their cut of the pie gets a little smaller, but the pie as a> whole gets larger and in the long run their cut of the pie actually> gets larger due to expansion, not smaller.
The biggest source of NFL revenue is the TV contract. Expansion dilutes that. I'd doubt there's a very large number of football fans -- the ones who would support a new franchise -- who don't watch football on TV now. Ticket revenues just aren't all that significant in the overall scheme of things -- especially the ones which would be shared with existing owners.
But, yes, there will be expansion at some point. I just don't see it anytime soon.

Wally probably won't be responding any time soon. This is the time of year he's usually out pasting new LA Rams bumper-stickers to his 1981 Chrysler K Car, to cover-up the multiple hit and run dents.
