Since we're all wildly speculating, I'm going to guess McLaren can get
better results out of Bourdais for the same price as Hamilton.

Schumacher leaving Ferrari, but not retiring, seems a bit far fetched.
I mean, what's the point? What's the motivation for going out and just
turning laps?

One would have to believe that the French would have some pull in their

Yes, I would agree with this. However, this isn't relevant to Schumacher as
you say that in "2-3 years" you "think" they could be "among" the front
runners. Schumacher is too old to be waiting 2-3 years for a team to come
good, and even then it is uncertain that Red Bull will get there. If you
look at the recent history of F1 - last 20 years - there has been very
little movement in overall ranking between the teams. A lot of the teams
have promised to break the established domination of Ferrari, McLaren, and
Williams, and the only one to do so has been Renault. Others have promised
to do so, and seemingly had huge resources, only to fail, eg, Toyota, BAR,
arguably Jaguar.

Seriously, this really is implausible.

So is Kimi going to Renault. So is a Ferrari dream team. Schumacher
retiring? Could be, but my hunch is not.
Even if schumacher wants revenge by >beating Alonso, he would know that he is unlikely to be able to do it from >Red Bull - it would be a huge risk and more than likely the car will still >be mid-field.

It is not more than likely it will still be midfield... We're talking
Brawn/Schumacher/Newey here. With a one-make tyre and frozen engine at
competitive performance, there aren't too many unpredictable factors.
This is not how he would want to end his career, being beaten >by a number of other cars/drivers.

I doubt his mind works like that.
Further, Schumacher and Ferrari are so close, that there is no doubt that he >can drive there next year if he wants to.

Of course. I'm basing all this on what we've heard said, and that
includes Luca going after Kimi.
This is why the whole driver's >market is held up at the moment. Everyone waiting to see if Schumacher does >decide to continue at Ferrari.

Where else would he continue?

I think you underestimate what ambitions Red Bull have. Never mind
CVC. IMO they were thinking in terms of a couple of years, but the
timeline might be moving forward. It isn't just driver contracts that
are up in the air at the moment. Everything is.
