Okay, I tweaked my spreadsheet to force 64 teams into 32 games, all
even numbers now:
SEC $50m 9/12 teams
B10 $47m 8/11
B12 $46m 8/12
ACC $28m 8/12
P10 $23m 5/10
BE $20m 5/8
WAC $19m 4/9
CUSa $5m 7/12
MW $3m 5/9
MidA $1m 2/12
Ind $.7m 1/4
SB $.3m 1/8
Did you? Am I miscounting? I still get 63.
I'm not dissing you - it's just a interesting stat.
Hugh
Sigh. Six Pac-10 teams are in. The Pac-10 payout is correct.
It would have been easier just to post the spreadsheet than to try to
re-key everything.
Again I hasten to add that what you did was very interesting and I appreciate it.
A small part of my job until I retired was looking for variants in statements, especially by lawyers in contracts. And it's easier to spot variants by others than in oneself.

Don't take anything I said as criticism.

Oh, no offense taken. And by the way, I got all my info from the intertubes, so it has to be true.
I think the total payout is $248,750,000. Also, several bowls had formulas that might have resulted in different payouts to the two teams involved, but in the end only Chick-fil-A wound up paying differing amounts. Clemson is getting $3,250,000, while Auburn is getting $2,400,000.

Unless I'm wrong again.
Well, you've never changed your payouts to indicate that a conference only receives $4.5 million for its 2nd team in the BCS, not the full $17 million. Also, non-BCS conferences receive money as part of the agreement they made with the BCS conferences. Please read the following from last year: <http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2006-12-06-bowl-payouts_ x.htm> -- Remove blown from email address to reply.
You're right. I now see that I took the numbers from a table on a web site, and did not notice the non-footnoted note on that site explaining this year's BCS allocations. It seems that Georgia and Illinois will only get $6m each instead of $17m. Also, one of the Big 12 schools gets $17m while the other one gets $6m, although it does not appear to matter which gets which. And Hawaii gets $9m for the Sugar Bowl.
I'll update the spreadsheet on Sunday, while watching one of those inconquential Sunday football games.
