Hendrick, Childress to appeal

Frank Dwyer 16 March 2005 20:46:27
"In this particular instance, though, we disagree with the severity of
NASCAR's stance and plan to appeal their decision. I want to make it
clear that we in no way intentionally ignored guidelines and I'm certain
everyone understands that." - Rick Hendrick

"I think the penalty they have given us is out of line so we have
decided to appeal their ruling." - Richard Childress

All three crew chiefs will be on the box until the appeals are heard.
No word about any appeals from the others penalized.

Not much else to read about it, but here's the link:

RC should be thankful the penalties were not higher. I think he's only
appealing to have some time to prepare for being without Berrier.

I think it's curious that the suspended chiefs aren't allowed any cell
phone (phone) or radio contact with the teams while they are on
suspension, but it doesn't say anything about e-mail. Hmmmm.

The only way they may be able to effectively enforce the penalty is
to ban every member of the crews from having cell phones.

Sorry Bucko... yer man cheats, gets caught, then basically brags about how
he'd try it again and how he'd get away with it... heh... good luck on
that one.

Yep, Hendrick motorsports is right to not admit it. They will still
cheat but never admit it.

The problem with what Berrier did is it was so blatantly obvious it could
not be denied. Otherwise, I think he would have tried to deny it. He got
caught and it was embarrassing but he should not have defiantly thumbed
his nose at NASCAR by saying, "Yeah, I did it and I will do it again." That
was not a very smart move but then neither was the fuel tank trick.
