Saturday Qualifying, Bahrain: Ferrari!

Tussock 2 April 2005 15:02:50
Ferrari suck, still: or rather, bridgestone do, but even I
predicted that. Infact, I'm writing this bit before they even get on the
track. 8]

Addendum: hmm, looks like we've just about got a fight on our
hands. Excellent. I see the special Rubins-destruct function still works.

Renault. Still 1st.
Toyota. Still 2nd.
Ferrari. Still ... hey! This is new.
Williams. Another new front wing pips the McLaren to hold 4th.
McLaren
Red Bull
Sauber. Nice lap from Massa to beat the BAR boys.
BAR. This is a bit sad, 2nd place last year.
Jordan
Minardi. New car in Monaco. Can they catch Jordan? Probably not. 8|

So, DC still can't lap, RB had gear troubles, and JV's still lost;
Ralf made a mistake, and everyone else is pretty much in order. The
track probably got quicker, so the top 3 teams are all in it, and
Williams aren't far off.

Not from here. [Even before qualifying] Did you not see the sector times
from practice?

Did you predict the sun coming up this morning too.

Perhaps you should just wait then.

Over the race distance tomorrow they will suck in these hot conditions, The
42'C air temp and and 55-59'C track temp will turn them to slappers by mid
race.

I don't. Even going out at the optimum time, MS still only managed 3rd
place, and that is on a single lap, where the problems that are likely
to develop with the tyres over a race distance are irrelevant. I think
they are likely to be in the running for a podium finish tomorrow, but
unless something happens to the Renaults, I don't think they will be on
for the win.
Would you be willing to give long odds against it doing the job in >Imola? I wouldn't.

Not long odds, but I would say it is far from odds on.

You are rather more optimistic than me. I meant this season not this
weekend. If MS puts it on the podium without other teams having major
problems then the tyres will have to be miles better than most people expect
(not sorry about the pun).

The car doesn't run on rails like we have come to expect of Ferrari but
if/when it does...

Shame it is so bad for the spectacle for such things to happen.

Yep, though there's no way to tell how much fuel someone's carrying
when doing 3 and 4 lap runs. The Ferrari was fast at Malasia too in
places, just slow when it mattered.

I reckon the sun will stay put, but the earth will continue to spin
if that's what you mean. 8]

I did; thus the rest of the post. Watching one car at a time with
breaks on live timing is *boring* if I don't do something else during.

One hour 'till the next one ....

Indeed. And if he doesn't, he is going to be a long way behind the > championship leaders by the time we come to Europe. That means he will be > under pressure, and we all know that MS does not run at his best when > under pressure.>
The car doesn't run on rails like we have come to expect of Ferrari but>>if/when it does...>
I think whether Bridgestone can fix the problems is a huge if.

Don't forget we don't know what the gap is like in cooler climes.
And we have yet to see whether the F2005 maintains the Ferrari reputation >for bullet-proof reliability. It hasn't been tested in a race yet.>

True, and RB is paying the cost of rushing the job this weekend.
Shame it is so bad for the spectacle for such things to happen.>
Agreed. But I am reasonably confident that it won't happen.

At some races or the WCD/WCC?
I don't doubt that Ferrari will be up there challenging for wins again > soon. But I don't see them walking away with it. To win it, they, and MS, > will have to work for it.

True, there is a big difference between walking away with a few races and
winning the championship.

At some races or the WCD/WCC?

I am very confident that it won't happen in the championship overall;
and I don't expect them to run away and hide in more than one or two
races, and probably not even that. There is little doubt that Renault
and Michelin, not Ferrari and Bridgestone, is the benchmark this year.
