Who the hell is Nick Fry, and what happended to Richards?

Few like to see World Champions struggle to be competitive, but this is
what we had at the Malaysian Grand Prix when Ferrari and its tyre
supplier Bridgestone were left floundering for pace and were it not for
the accident between Giancarlo Fisichella and Mark Webber, Michael
Schumacher would have finished out of the points in ninth position.

Unperturbed Ferrari will be testing hard this week with the yet-to-
be-raced F2005, while Bridgestone have promised much better rubber for
the Bahrain even a week Sunday.

The team will almost certainly also test next week in the build up to
the third round of the championship – a time when traditionally, no
teams have tested and to date, Ferrari are the only teams to do more
than a shakedown run on the week leading up to a Grand Prix.

"Ferrari's decision to go it alone in testing shows flagrant disregard
for the rest of us and gives them an unquestioned edge,” BAR Team
Principle Nick Fry told the Daily Telegraph. “They have been running and
developing their new car day after day on private tracks. Now they are
putting Schumacher and Barrichello in it for long stretches to get
opinions on developing engine, chassis and tyre packages.”

Ferrari is joined by just Jordan and Minardi in running Bridgestone
tyres this year. Teams have gradually over recent years left Bridgestone
in favour of Michelin as Ferrari were have for a long time been
Bridgestone’s number one team. To underline the fact, three years ago
Ron Dennis agreed a Michelin supply when he was unable to negotiate a
deal with Bridgestone that would give McLaren Mercedes tyre parity with
Ferrari.

“It is like waving a red rag to a bull for them to claim they are a
special case because they are the only major team who use Bridgestone
tyres,” Fry continued. “In effect they have a bespoke tyre while the
other are on Michelin. While we get quality we have limited options from
our supplier and have to compromise. There is no shared information, as
Ferrari suggest, because we are competitors. If Michael Schumacher gains
another world title it will be a hollow championship."

The FIA meanwhile seem to have no real stance on limiting testing and
are currently leaving it up to the teams to agree to disagree.

When did they get rid of Dave?
I thought he did wonders last year with the team, seems odd to get rid
of him.

Late last year from what I remember. I don't think Dave Richards he was ever
really an employee of BAR, his Prodrive group were contracted by British
American Tobacco to run the management side of the team. I'm not sure if the
Prodrive contract came to a natural end or was terminated early (possibly
Honda exerting their extended influence on the team).

Nick Fry was Managing Director of Prodrive, he has been kept on as CEO at
BAR.
