You hate people because of where they're from? That makes you a bigot.

do you know people from new york or ontario?
i was in montreal a bunch of years back, i was sleeping next to the st
lawrence river on night before the race{illegally}, two cops woke us up,
they asked us one question,"are you from ontario?" it was a big relief to
say "no, boston", they said"you can go back to sleep" meaning where we were
allowed to go back to where we were and not to a room provided by the city.

I don't know much about Canada. So, what's wrong with Ontario?

Wow! That first hand experience sure is the one and true way to judge
10's of millions of people from NY and Ontario (and what the entire city of
Montreal thinks of them).

You know, that reminds me. I met some people from Boston once, one of them
puked all over the table at the bar and then passed out. Answer me this:
Why does everyone from Boston have a problem holding their liquor and love
to puke in public?

Hi Liam,

I'll answer your question seing that none seem interested in doing so.

About the GP: GS 22 are good seats. The hairpin is a nice place for
passing. You may wish to bring a walkman to be able to follow the
commentaries since sound wasn't that great last time I was there. The
screens were adequetly placed tought. Weather is a bit unpredictable at
that time of the year. Sometimes, it's a sunny 30c weekend. Sometimes
it's a rainy 15c weekend. Be prepared for either one. I guess you'll be
staying somewhere in the city and in that case you best bet is to
travel to and from the track by subway. I know that they have a weekly
pass for it (also good for the bus) that are a good value.

The city is very crowded during that weekend. Most action takes places
downtown on Crescent and Peel street. Other sectors of interest are on
Saint-Denis street (Plateau district) and Saint-Laurent (Mile-End).
It's easy to find good food, good beer and nigth life in all these
areas.

Don't know how long you'll be in Montreal, but main tourist area are
the Old Port and the montain (more of a hill really). Summit park in
Westmount is in a residential sector and usually ignored from tourist.
A shame really since it has, in my opinion, the very best view of the
city.

Don't worry about the language issue since it's a non issue as far as
tourist are concern. English is widely spoken and understood a part
from a few residential areas that you are unlikely to visit during a
short stay. People are usually friendly and the city is relatively safe
when compared to similar size cities.

There usually is a RASF1 gathering on Friday nigth, but it as gotten
rather intiment the last few years.

Enjoy the GP and your stay.

i don't drink so i can't tell you that , but you don't see people puking
all over the streets in boston. so i dunno , where are you from? i can
probably tell tales of folks from your neck of the woods , drunks are
drunks.

I've been to Montreal twice for the gp and had not a problem. Thought
the place was wonderful and the people pleasant. And I don't speak a

9 times for me, a native New Yorker. Montreal is a fantastic place
filled with friendly and attractive people. It's been my experience
that mastering a few obvious pleasantries in French and quickly
establishing that I am neither conversant nor fluent, has obviated any
tension or discomfort in even the outlying suburbs and neighborhoods.

I will confess I've never thought to try passing out on the streets to
test the tolerance of the local police, like some drunken Boston
donkey.

Attractive? Hell, you should have seen it when I was there!

Never did get anywhere but the downtown area and the island but I'd like
to have seen more. In fact, the first time the Expos were playing at
home and I wanted to go to a game but we were committed to the Penelope
and of course we wouldn't miss that. Then next time they were on the
road and now, well I'll never see an Expos game live :-(

A favorite kart track is out in Longieulle (?, forgive me I can never
spell that word), along with a golf course or two, as is a reasonably
priced hotel which has been a last minute choice over the years, we
also spent a week in the "lingerie district" in the NE, which was very
golf course accessible.

Actually, someone mentioned about a kart track there. In fact, I think
it was Doug, remember Doug the f1 guy who used to post here? From
Alberta...wonder what happened to him? Doug Finch I think? Far as
golfing goes, well I figure the guy who invented golfing and called it
fun was the same guy who invented bagpipes and called it music..

I have relatives in Montreal, I'm there 2 or 3 weekends a year, including
the GP....I could walk it with my eyes closed!

Any other stupid questions unrelated to the fact you're a typical american
with an overinflated sense of his own knowledge and importance?

ray,

this is very entertaining. Please regale us of more tales of being
spared police brutality due to being American, versus from Ontario. Oh
yeah, your reference to "Vive le Quebec libre?" - July 24, 1967, Charles

Can we hear more stories? Please tell us more grandpa.
