Kosuke Matsuura's strong performance on the streets of St. Petersburg continued with Matsuura securing the seventh spot on the grid for the IRL IndyCar® Series first non-oval race - the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Matsuura had been amongst the top-10 throughout practice on the 1.8-mile temporary street circuit, and was able to put together his best lap of the weekend on the 14-turn course in qualifying this afternoon. Matsuura last competed on a street circuit in 2003 in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup Championship. Despite a strong road racing background, tomorrow's 100-lap/180-mile event will mark the longest road/street circuit race of Matsuura's career.
