Larry Foyt flunked out of NASCAR

Alan Jones 29 May 2005 22:24:20

Larry Foyt flunked out of NASCAR and he obviously can't drive an Indy car
either. He wouldn't even take any blame for the crash. Five laps down and
he takes out a car running 5th-6th. What a Bodeen.

I think you have the wrong Foyt, Larry was first out in a single car
incident.

Whoops, you're right. Okay then, I'll just say none of the Bodeen err Foyt
brothers should be racing.

I'm pretty sure Larry and AJ the IV are brothers and I'm sure Larry
did terribly in NASCAR. :) I probably shouldn't be calling them Bodeen's
since their father's is a good name in racing.

The current Foyts have flunked out of racing. Their only hope is to
carry their name into the IRL. hey're terrible, but tony George has to
have field fillers so he won't do anything about 'em.

Larry is AJ's son.
AJ IV is AJ's grandson.
Neither seems to have inherited any racing genes from AJ.

When has he ever been right about anything? No surprises here.

Welcome to open wheel. After your Late Model show at Eldora, try one of the
sprint car shows. You could probably make an Indy 500, too. Great show. I
have missed the last two, but I drive all the way from down here to make it.

I don't like the looks of wasp cars. I want a car to at least appear to be
a street car that someone souped up in their garage. When it comes to funny
looking cars, if i wanted something wierd, I'd be a top fuel fan. But I
just don't like the looks of the cars.
I guess if i liked machines that were designed to go as fast as humans
could make them go, I'd spend every day gazing at the sky marveling at
airplanes.
I just want a car to LOOK like a car.
Indy WAS great racing though, and seemed honest and less contrived. NASCAR
seems more and more contrived daily, and contrived yellows so their can be
more commercials and/or Jr needs tires dampens my spirits.
Then either last year, or the year before, when Dale Jarrett explained away
his frustrations when he said, "Well, what can i say? It's just a show"
All this has been gnawing at my brain, and I said, if it's just a show,
Jimmy Johnson will win Lowes motor speedway last night.

<sigh> I'm beginning to think that I'm going to be able to walk away and do
other things on NASCAR raceday. It's getting as fake and contrived as WWE.
No wonder NASCAR likes affiliating with them.
Maybe I'll make the switch. But if Danica won yesterday, I would have
walked away with a gnawing feeling that the Indy was "JUST" as contrived as
NASCAR. With that, I have mixed feelings. The pre-race buildup was such,
that it was pretty obvious that they WANTED you to want Danica to win.
That's all they talked about during the race. It was obviously the Danica
500. Yes, I wanted her to win, but had she won, I would have felt the same
about the Indy 500 as I am beginning to feel about NASCAR. HAD.
But the whole feel about the Indy 500 was a feeling of less "contrived"
more honest racing, better sportsmanship. The passing was exciting. I don't
recall ever watching it before and the whole thing struck me as a parade,
it didn't this time. The indy was exciting, and with 4 wide passing, the
racing was good. As much as i rooted for Danica, I was glad she didn't win.
The fact she didn't restored my faith that the Indy is less of a spectacle
"show" than NASCAR has become.
The trip to Eldora will tell me whether I continue interest in
autoracing or not. If there is real "racing" and less "contrived" I will
probably spend more time at local races and I suspect soon, I'm just going
to lose interest in NASCAR.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Jimmy Johnson. And at any other race, I'd be
happy for his win. But I knew at the outset, that unless something REALLY
bad happened, that he could not continue this race at all, I don't care if
he was 50 laps down, NASCAR would have found a way to pull him to the top
for a win.

With all the parity in these cars, it just doesn't make sense to me that
people can be 2-3 laps down and still win. Yes, the first time they pull
that gimmick, it's excitement. And then things smell fishy. I now watch
NASCAR with a jaded eye, and I enjoy it less.

I'm looking forward to Eldora. I still like cars to LOOK like cars <sigh>

I would go nuts living up that way. I wouldn't be able to choose which
track to attend week to week. At least Eldora doesn't run a weekly show.
There are just so many tracks to choose from, with a variety of classes, and
scads of open wheel, if that is what you enjoy, and I do. Lots of stock
cars that race. Hell, Winchester is a far more exciting track than Bristol.
Still drivers who wreck in those things and crawl out, and do the whole> show all over again the next week amaze me. Superhumans they are!> I was in a motorcycle accident over the weekend. All I can say is "ouch"> I would not want to subject myself to that kind of stuff weekend in, and> out.

Hope all is well after the accident.

I've ridden the motorcycle on Winchester speedway. What a thrill.
If you ever get this way, give me a note, maybe we will do a race together
and you show us the finer points?
I never got your panoramic view of Eldora.>

Could have been worse, but not something I would willing to subject myself
to deliberately. Hobbling around and got some good meds. Bike, not so
good.

If I get up that way, it is usually just before Memorial Day, since I come
up for the 500. Hopefully I will make it next year. Things outside of my
control have kept me down in Texas during May the last two years.

I never got your panoramic view of Eldora.

Hmm, send me your email again and I will try again.> >

One of the others in our office stacked his bike a few weeks back. He still
is on the mend, and not able to make it into work.
