 West McLaren Mercedes drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Pedro de la Rosa
finished seventh and ninth in the first qualifying session for Sunday's
Bahrain Grand Prix. Kimi set a time of 1:30.594 whilst Pedro's time was
1:30.725. Qualifying took place in very hot conditions with track
temperatures reaching 54 degrees Celsius and ambient temperatures 42
degrees.

 Team McLaren Mercedes driver Juan Pablo Montoya finished today's
qualifying session for the Bahrain Grand Prix in fifth position on the
grid with a time of 1m32.164. Kimi Raikkonen will start tomorrow's race
from the back of the grid after a right rear suspension failure on his
first flying lap which meant that he failed to set a time.

This was the
first time all the teams experienced the three-stage knockout system
introduced for this year. In the first session Juan Pablo Montoya set a
time of 1:33.233 and finished in fifth place and the second session saw
him finish with the second fastest time of 1m31.487.

 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso
will start Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix from second and fourth positions
respectively. In Saturday's qualifying, Lewis set a time of 1:32.935;
in only the third Grand Prix of his Formula One career he will start
from the front row of the grid for the first time. Fernando's time was
1:33.192 putting him on the second row.
