What if Ferrari did a BAR?

Rparlato@Yahoo.Com 17 March 2005 20:28:42
This group would be up in arms screaming for the death of Ferrari if
they pulled in on the last lap so they could change engines in the next
race.

What about BAR and the English gentleman's agreement to limit testing
for the good of the sport??? FOR THE GOOD OF THE SPORT! Is this move
good for the sport?

Given the endless requests for clarification of the rules before the
season, and Charlie Whiting's clear statement that any car that retired
could have a free change, it's no surprise whatsoever that they decided
to do that. It's not cheating, it's legal, and it's rubbing the FIA's
nose in their own stupidity - if Ferrari did it, I'd be just as much in
favour.

And this loophole has been plugged.
BAR followed the rules to benefit them. It's nothing new.
Remember MS coming into the pits on the last lap for a 10 second penalty and
winning by sitting in the pit lane?

Formula England: It's all about the bloody spectacle, old bean.

It would be much worse then that. Teams like, say, Toyota would
publicly complain and the FIA migth even go as far as closing the
obvious loophole in the rule.
What about BAR and the English gentleman's agreement to limit testing> for the good of the sport??? FOR THE GOOD OF THE SPORT! Is this move> good for the sport?

How about if McLaren took a 10 second penalty after a race? Or if
Williams asked it's drivers to swap positions in the last corner? Or
if, say Alonso in a very condescending manner asked track marshals to
run over to is car to push him back on track when they had clearly
decided that the car was ok were it was?

Would you be screaming Formula England at everyone?

Of course you wouldn't. You're so much more interested in "the good of
the sport" then the rest of us.

Formula England: It's all about the bloody spectacle, old bean.

How does limited testing agreement between 9 teams, mostly not British,
do anything for the spectacle or aid you in your tedious and pointless
promotion of the imaginary "Formula England"?

How about if McLaren took a 10 second penalty after a race?

That never happened.
Or if>Williams asked it's drivers to swap positions in the last corner?

McLaren would be the better example, and the answer is NOTHING, no one
seemed to mind a bit, every time.
Or if, say Alonso in a very condescending manner asked track marshals to>run over to is car to push him back on track when they had clearly>decided that the car was ok were it was?

The fact that I, and many others, cannot follow how you manage to
conjure Formula England out of bugger all is not cause for *my*
following a course of therapy.

BAR's decision to go back to square one and run a new engine for another 2
race stretch, which I am certain they preconceived if they performed badly
in Australia, will probably hurt them in the third race. Malaysia is a
grueling race. BAR might do well there, but they'll still have to nurse
the engine for round three.

Yawnnn... BAR is making themselves look like they don't respect the 'intent'
of the rules..
If Ferrari did they same they would look equally bad...

FWIW, that won't happen. The FIA has tightened the rules, so no more
BAR tricks (no not talking about Kimi at all)
One has to wonder about the naivety of Mr "Oh, we'll watch them kids,
but i'm sure they will play nice" Mosley, not to have foreseen this.
