You must not have been trying very hard on Saturday and Sunday. Gymnastics was a VERY small part of this weekend's coverage. Too bad you can't see what is really on, like the rest of us.
Most everything is available on video from NBC so it does not matter much what is on the teevee anyhow.
I saw more swimming, more diving, more sculling/rowing, more cycling, more basketball and more beach volleyball, than I saw gymnastics. I even saw some fencing.

What's bogus is how the USA always seems to get shafted in Olympic events that are judged. Gymnastics, diving, etc. One of the TeeVee commentators basically stated during the women's synchronous diving that the Chinese divers got good scores because they were the World champs. Shouldn't that work the other way around? Good scores should be earned, not gifted. The gymnastics commentators seemed to think that the Chinese gymnasts were scored favorably as well.

How would you know? The TV's rarely show the other competitors, just the US athletes, so there's no way to tell if the other diver or whatever was really excellent, or the judging was biased.
After all, it's not like other countries don't have some skilled athletes too.

Did you watch it John? Even I could tell on the last dive in the women's synchronous diving that the Chinese pair had a shitty dive, yet their scores were higher than the US divers, who had a very nice dive. And yes, they were showing other divers besides the Americans. Like I said, even the commentators were indirectly saying that the judging is unfair.

No, all I've seen so far is some of the women's gymnastics, and a bit of the swimming. In all of which the only time a non-US competitor's face was shown was for 5 seconds when the girl in the next lane over leaned in to speak to the American girl in the swimming event.

Well, in that case I'd say you were fair to call the judging biased.
But most of the time, it's more sour grapes than anything, and doesn't do us (the US fans) any credit.

its the same deal here in canada. if i try to watch the olympics here
on CBC, its ALWAYS gynastics. i dont give a **** about some kid who
has been swinging on ropes since they were 4 so they can go to the
olympics once in their life time as they will be too "old" by the time
they're 25, and have never worked a real job in their life because of
the constant training and are dropped hard into the real world when
this dream is over in 2 weeks
You shouldn't watch gymnastics, then, because there is a 33-year-old
woman competing for the Germans.
N.
see i wouldnt even know other countries were competing in these
olympics if i just went solely by what CBC tells me, because canada is
so BAD in the summer olympics, they only show canada competing by
themselves in these prelims, and dont even mention other countries,
let alone the fact that we have yet to win a single medal
Just wait a couple of years for the Winter Olympics to resurface. Your guys will do better in that one. These Summer Olympics include too many sports. Ping pong? Gimme a break. The only important events are basketball, swimming, and track and field anyhow. Any event that involves background music, horses, or boats should not count. They should be demonstration events with no official medals awarded.
All gymnastics should be relegated to a separate Chick Olympics (fans, not athletes) and everything that involves shooting, horsies, or boating should be in a separate Paramilitary Olympics. And finally the distinctly Asian stuff like judo and ping pong should be contested in the All-Asia games.
There is nothing apparently wrong in that picture except that she is wasting her time with gymnastics when should could be cheerleading unless she is too short. Come to think of it, maybe cheerleading was designed for pretty tall girls and that flipping and bouncing stuff was designed for pretty midget girls. Yeah, I think I am on to something there. And for real tall girls who like sports there is volleyball and even basketball.

your US coverage sounds great. i havn't been able to find basketball,
rowing or cycling yet, all sports i would love to see
If you are into the Olympics do yourself a small favor and look up "ministry of silly walks" on youtube before you see the racewalking coverage. That Monty Python troupe was pretty funny back in the day.
I do not want to break bad on what other people enjoy but that racewalking is some funny looking stuff. I am not sure but I think it is mainly practiced in the UK and they are an odd lot going in.
(whose stepfather truly believes the only sports that should be on tv are auto racing, hunting, and fishing!!! he just doesn't get the whole horsey thing AT ALL!)
Horses have been pretty darn important down through history. Now they are just used for decoration and recreation but back in the good old days they served a lot of purpose in transportation and farming and ranching and warfare.
And even now today the police use them for crowd control and the big game hunters still use them to haul Bambi out of Montana mountains.
And they still make nice subjects for statues even at this late date when Western movies do not even come around once per year.
What this country needs is more horsemanship and fewer tattoos. That is simply because I like horses and abhor tattoos on anyone to signify anything. Tee shirts or decorated jackets are okay because they can be removed. Tattoos are like forever even when people grow up and think how stupid they look.
