Numbers in brackets () in second column indicate table positions before
adding the most recent GP (IE the change in table position).

GPs - number of GPs counted for each driver (from the last 100)

[-1] [+1], etc. - number of GPs deleted/added to driver's record since
the last event
PP - number of Pole Positions (in the last 100)
W - number of Wins (in the last 100)
FL - number of Fastest Laps (in the last 100)
Points - these are 'my' points, allocated for many & various things, not

All-time Top 60

I posted a Top 50 after the Spanish GP and I've since done some more work
towards completing the gathering of all data. This allows me to expand the
list to a Top 60 - this is useful since it 'catches' Keke Rosberg, the
only WDC who didn't make the Top 50.

Last time I had reduced the averages for drivers with a limited number of
starts. I had reduced the average to 25% for drivers with between one and
10 starts; to 50% for those between 11 and 20 starts; and to 75% for those
between 21 and 30 starts. A more satisfactory method seemed to be based
on the number of starts in the three seasons at the beginning of a career.

Two examples. Wolfgang von Trips comes into the top 50 even though he only
had 27 valid starts. His first 3 seasons were 1957/58/59 when there were
7/10/8 events - he would have stepped up from 25% after 7 events, to 75%
after 17 events, and to 100% after 25. So he rates 100%.

Lewis Hamilton began in 2007 when there were 17 events (25%); this year
there are 18 (50%), and next year? (75% after 35). Only in 2010 will he
be at 100% - unless he misses a lot of races. The steps would stay at
whatever the numbers were in 2007/08/09.

Making this change affects four drivers:

Hamilton falls from 10 to 22
Gonzalez moves up from 22 to 12
Von Trips comes back into the top 50 at #28
Musso comes back into the top 50 at #49

In completing the data for the late 'eighties and early 'nineties I
discovered a few minor errors. In most cases an additional race or
two was added. However, these were all races where the drivers did
not score highly and so the effect is to reduce their averages
slightly. The drivers affected were Michael Schumacher, HДkkinen,
Lauda, Scheckter, Andretti, Berger, Arnoux and Barrichello. All of
these maintain their positions in the table. In addition Mario
Andretti dropped enough to fall below Coulthard and Rene Arnoux to
drop below Regazzoni.

I've also removed Alberto Ascari's 1952 Indianapolis 500 start from
the data. It clearly should not be there since I'm ignoring all the
Indy 500s. Reducing his race total from 32 to 31 while removing only
a few points increases his average quite a lot.

Finally, adding the data for the Turkish GP affects the current
drivers. Felipe Massa's average goes up enough to move him ahead of
Jochen Rindt, while all the others suffer a slight fall in average -
Alonso, RДikkЖnen, Hamilton, Coulthard and Barrichello.

Current drivers are indicated by a '*'. Their averages are volatile and
may fluctuate wildly.

Drivers with a limited number of starts are indicated by '%1', '%2' or
'%3' showing those with 25%, 50% and 75% of their respective averages.

Note that only one driver in the Top 60 has no race wins - Luigi Villoresi
(53rd). 'Gigi' drove from 1950-56, mostly for Ferrari, with eight podiums.

a racing driver. Emilio was nicknamed 'Mimi' :-)­
