Don't get me wrong, I've been a CART fan since the early 90's and refuse to waste my time watching an EARL race, but I'm really starting to get worried...
- It seems like half of the driver field got filled less than a week before the first race!
- Nascar announcers. Great. I'd rather listen to "Well well well...". At least Jon was still there.
- Staggered start?? They can barely get them to do side-by-side! What happened to the standing starts they were going to do this year? Better yet, grid with the engines off and start them with the onboard when the lights go green.
- Rahal out on the first lap. Champ Car's dream start.
- Wouldn't it be nice to be able to put a couple of green laps together at the start before the ten people who were watching the hockey game changed the channel?
- Timed races all season? Even on road courses? Are you serious?
- No ovals. Bad move. Champ Car was unique because it had everything.
- It's nice to see they have all equal equipment, and that anyone can win, depending on if you win the fuel-rig lottery.
- I'm glad I don't have a Panoz onboard car starter in my car.
- Dominguez back at Forsythe?? They couldn't find anybody else?
- They couldn't turn off the traffic lights?? Ok, here's an idea, while you have all the cranes and are putting up miles of concrete and fencing, BAG 'EM!
- Fake chicanes in the middle of the road are not awesome.
- Half the ads seemed to be for Champ Car events or merchandise. Sustainable?
- Why no mention of Gale Sayers/Ray Lewis?
- Assclown announcers talking over Mickelright on the radio.
- Was this Monster deal with Tracy just recent? No sign of them on the car. Or is it like Schumacher and his Dekra or Geferkenmerkenfunchen Bank hat deal?

With fans like you and Robin Miller they really may be in trouble.
I believe it is a tradition for a road course to have a chicane of some sort. Sometimes it is in the form of "esses" and sometimes a "bus stop" or "inner loop". It sounds like you are just making up complaints about everything and anything.
.... And for all your bitching the race was fantastic and the tv coverage was excellent. (I admit I did not watch the race live as I can't stand to watch commercials after 40 years of tv viewing)
Yes, though they were mostly CRAPCAR guys handling the coverage I thought their views were fresh and they did a very professional job. I would have been happy if they did the whole season.
The many yellow laps at the beginning were painful but the race was a good fight.
My only real complaint is it's too bad the fuel rig problems could not be worked out before the start of the race.
And I do not miss the ovals. The IRL has plenty and they do ovals much better - they give the round-round people what they want:- cars bunched up and crashing (too bad only the last 10 laps are worth watching).

Fans like me?? I am a huge CART/ChampCar supporter.
Give up. Trying to have a reasonable discussion here and in rasi is just a waste of time. I watch both CCWS and IRL (I hated the IRL when it started, but these days I prefer IRL races; but as I said: I watch *both*) and I refuse to pick a side. Both have positive and negative aspects and a real fan is capable of seeing the problems.
You clearly said you're a big CART/CCWS fan and all you did was mentioning a few problems you noticed. And you get attacked for that. I admire everyone who hasn't given up on rasc/rasi yet, but many good people have left the groups or at least stopped posting. It's the wrong thing to leave it to the trolls, but unfortunately it's the reasonable thing to do.

His post was not a troll and mine was? Really, I think it was a fair discussion. And you're trying to come of as unbiased but your colors have shown in these groups for years.

Martin every time I see a post that starts with "I have been a long time fan but....." up goes a big red flag. These posts are almost always from the same nymshifting phool.

Might be him, but in case of this thread I would give the original poster the benefit of the doubt.
And the sentence you mentioned describes the problem in rasc/rasi (not considering the OPs intention) - if you criticize something, you get ripped apart by the trolls, so the best strategy these days seems to be to start in defense mode (and even that doesn't work anymore).

You are "RickyBobby"? When I replied to El Gordo, he had answered to RickyBobby.

So, what are my colours? Is my colour "having been a die-hard CART fan for years and having been heavily disappoined by them"? Or is my colour "having hated the IRL as much as most people back then, but having fallen for them (once German TV started showing them live) because they deliver the racing I expect from US OW racing and because they nowadays follow the tradition of the old IndyCar Series"? I tell you what: it's both.

Your IRL/Busch post in rasi was nothing but trolling. There is no other explanation for a meaningless post like that.
It seems that is your most common response, so we will never get you.
I response like that when there is obvious trolling. Of all the newsgroups I read rasc/rasi/rasf1 are the most troll-infested. Other groups have one or two regular trolls, but they usually aren't annoying enough to make me comment on them.
