Two of NASCAR Nextel Cup Series top stars, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, were forced to sit on the sidelines in today's practice and qualifying on the Sears Point Infineon Raceway road course located in California's wine country due to "illegal front-end modifications" during the pre technical inspection prior to the first on-track activity.
Both the reigning Cup champion and the current points leader may have to miss Sunday's race on the 1.99-mile circuit -- the first road course challenge of the season and the first for the Car of Tomorrow -- unless modifications are made.
