The kindly Rev. overheard pilota <senninha@ziplip.com> saying on Sun 17 Jun 2007 02:00:19p:
2008: Canada, week off, France.
And Bernie will add an Asian race next season to replace Indy.
He only needs one North American venue- and Montreal is the
superior choice.
Bernie is just turning the screws on Tony George. When negotiations start getting really tense, expect the mayor of Long Beach to give Bernie the key to the city.
Yes I know we Americans have been trying our damndest to turn this place into a 3rd world country, but we haven't succeeded yet. The customers are still here for the products the F1 sponsors want to sell. And that means more races, not fewer.
In the spirit of pilota's prediction, how about holding the second race at Barber Motorsports Park? Or maybe Talladega? -- Rev. Bob "Bob" Crispen revbob at crispen dot org Ex Cathedra weblog: http://blog.crispen.org/

BMP looks like a nice enough track, if a little short (2.38 miles). Talledega is a tri-oval, which means they'd have to add an infield section like they did at Indy. However, they're both in the eastern half of the US, and I think Bernie wants to do something further west.
I predict that if a second US Grand Prix is added, it will be at a new track built north of Las Vegas. I'd use the NЭrburgring as a model, just scaled down and adapted to modern safety standards.

You're going about it wrong. They could rent BMP for US$5,000 a day, all in. Since the paddock is outside the track, the drivers' families could come along and have a nice picnic while the guys race. And the F1 cars could race on the oval at Talladega. With restrictor plates.

I vaguely remember hearing about plans for a new track in the Nevada desert. Have they solved the problem of spectators spontaneously bursting into flame? -- Rev. Bob "Bob" Crispen revbob at crispen dot org Ex Cathedra weblog: http://blog.crispen.org/

They plan to call it a "rapid weight-loss program" and charge extra for anyone who combusts.

I'd love to see them do Laguna Seca.

Wouldn't we all - it is a great track at least from what I have seen on
TV. I have never made it out there.
What state are the pit garages etc in.
Nowhere near standards. And the spectator facilities aren't there.
It's a nice track, but it's several million dollars away from being
ready for F1.
Which is a shame for two reasons. Firstly, several million (in terms of international sporting events) is loose change, but, as someone wrote a few days ago, the US governments (local and federal) won't throw money at motor racing. Secondly, and more depressingly, I think every single fan on the planet wants to see F1 at Laguna Seca.

And the track itself is too narrow and too bumpy in sections for F1.

oh yeh, what's this i heard about bernie sending a letter to the
government of India? threat or potential?
How does milking the cow sound?
But I would say don't read much into it. It ain't happening that soon. India should to be there on the calendar no doubt, but they should set a roadmap for it to happen, a target date and hope F1 manages to survive till then and then invite the officials not just from F1 but also from A1, ChampCar, IRL, MotoGP, Sports Car, NASCAR etc. Building a street circuit just to be on the F1 calendar is a horrible idea. Politely differ Bernie's inviation for now and always base your operating model on "don't call me, I'll call you"!

I've only raced there once. Very hard to see in some sections in a

Have they changed the bit where Gonzalo Rodriguez was killed?
IIRC, several WSB riders threatened to not race there a few years ago as they considered it dangerous. As at least one of them had ridden the Isle of Man TT, it wasn't as if the riders were chicken...

That actually wasn't so much an issue of rough as it was of something that sneaks up on you. The visuals just aren't there. Yes, there's signage, but they just don't help.

Those guys have brass balls o begin with, so when one of them complains, I listen. I've got a nice cage of steel around me. They have a couple of mm of leather.
