rasf1m to be wound up

Paul-B 10 May 2005 12:01:43
From David Bett's post on rasf1 today:

"In view of the declining usage of rasf1m the moderation
team feels it can no longer justify asking the
present host to continue devoting time and expense to
maintaining the group's functionality. Consequently, unless a
new volunteer comes forward with hosting facilities in the
next few days, together with some fresh faces for the
moderation team, we will be winding up the group on May 31st..

We would like to thank all those who have contributed to
rasf1m since it was launched and who made it such an
interesting and worthwhile newsgroup for several years.
These days, with usenet traffic down significantly and the
unmoderated group much less unwieldy than it was, the need
for a moderated group seems to have faded away."

Thassa pity. Although I rarely posted, I used it like a "magazine"
edition of rasf1. Get the quali stats, overtaking stats and race
results without having to wade through all the garbage in here ...

Ho hum. So long ... and thanks for all the fish.

moderated groups have a way of "fading"away. of course this never has
anything to do with moderator policies.
the flame and spam are more tolerable than being censored arbitrarily and so
bye mod group. it won't be missed.

flame and spam can be blocked or ignored ,censorship is harder to dodge,
waiting days or even just hours for a post to appear is annoying when the
net thrives on immiediacy. generally near flame gets through and the reply
is what is censored and one party has to fume by seeing something they can't
reply to sitting there. charges of cronyism also dog all mod groups.
in the end mod groups become worse than what they are meant to cure.

Can you point to ONE instance of any of that on rasf1m?

Not the rasf1m I've been subscribed to. Certainly no cronyism or
blatant censorship, and my few postings there have appeared almost
immediately.

And I voted against the formation of rasf1m, but I'll be sad to see it
go.

I know it is a forbidden word around here. But what happened back then
(other than the first corner accident)? I have been here in RASF1 (mostly
reading) only for 3 years.

MS collided with DC and MS ended up with a 3-wheel Ferrari:

(top right just after the impact)

(bottom right)

MS wasn't impressed with having his car reduced to Robin Reliant status
and got a little irate about the situation:

It was something akin to World War 3.

Ahh, I tend to think your above issues were computer or isp
caused rather than moderator caused.
(I also frequently have problems causing frustration -
but rasf1mod has always worked perfect for me)

And the same answer to Ray, rasf1mod seemed to me
to be an ideal model for a moderated group.
