I wonder what percentage of Speed TV's viewers are watching the Spanish GP
qualifying and what percentage are watching the NASCAR race at
Darlington....

Most of the passes in NASCAR are meaningless, oval racing is a waste of
time.

First he missed the smiley and secondly, I agree..I think any fool could put
the steering lock on the column then a brick on the gas and sit there.
Perhaps the drivers of Nascar would be better suited keeping their toy cars
on a Scalextric Track ;-)

As Far as I've seen,Were'nt NASCAR Drivers all Hillbillies too..Yee..Ahh

But does anyone care? Last NASCAR I watched they spent most of the time
following a truck and the passes were no more interesting than watching cars
pass on a motorway.

BTCC, V8s, DTM all have real (if contrived) racing in them. Why watch
NASCAR.

Probably misread the f1 part of the newsgroup title too.

As for *real appreciation of racing* I think that goes with howlers like
*real appreciation of the art of fighting* when referring to American
wrestling!!
(Certainly does'nt stop people from watching it though)

Er, because a lot of the time the guy on pole has his car set up a
little too stiff, which is great for qualifying but uses up his tyres
after a few race laps.

Obvious, really.

Impossible in F1, as the cars are impounded after qualifying. Some NASCAR >races do this too, and NASCAR is moving towards doing it at all races.

It's not impossible at all, a car may well be set a little too much
for the qualifying lap(s) and then suffer the consequences a short way
into the race - wearing out the tyres too early and hence becoming
'slow'. This happens in Nascar (I know this due to the driver
admitting as such in later interviews) and there is surely the
possibility of it happening in F1 as well.

Why would someone risk the race for qualifying? That's what I meant -- >nobody would intentionally set up their car just for qualifying when the >cars are impounded.

I didn't say someone would set their car up *just* for qualifying, I
said someone may set their car up a little too much for qualifying.
And I think it'd happen because people make mistakes/misjudgements
about how aggressive in the setup they can be.
