Greatest Indy in years

Galloping.Moron 11 May 2005 20:44:25
With the addition of hotshot American driver Danica Patrick and CART
champion Sebastien Bourdais this is turning out to be the most exciting Indy
500 in some time. Racing fans around the globe are waiting anxiously to see
if any team can crack the recent Penske dominance.

American hype for American crap still makes it American crap.
Watch for lower than ever TV ratings and more ambivalence in ticket sales.

Boooorrrrrriiiiinnnnnnnggggggg!!!

The ticket sales and TV rating will be just great.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosts three of the four biggest races in
America, with the odd one out being the Daytona 500.

When you hinge the excitement and success of the IRL 500 on 2 rookies, 1 who
is only being noticed because of her gender and because she is a possible
heir to the heady throne and dizzying success (sarcasm) of Sara Fisher, you
have big, big, big problems.

Tony better start handing out free IRL 500 tickets with every McDonalds
hamburger sold if he wants to put butts in the seats.

I do not think you need to worry about his finances. He owns the entire IRL
and he has F1 and NASCAR eating out of his hand. Plus I would imagine that
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been paid for for some time.

Say what you will about him, but under his guidance
and stewardship, with the Indy 500, the US Grand
Prix and the Brickyard 400, attendance and seats
sold at IMS have increased tremendously.

There's a couple of somewhat erroneous statements in this thread.........
Racing fans around the globe are waiting anxiously to see if any team >>> >> can crack the recent Penske dominance.

Virtually nobody outside America gives a crap
The ticket sales and TV rating will be just great.

They'll be big - but nowhere near what they used to be - there won't be much
business for the scalpers. Reasonably safe to bet that they will be down on
last year in line with the trend over the last few years.
I do not think you need to worry about his finances. He owns the entire > IRL

This is a good thing to own???
and he has F1 and NASCAR eating out of his hand.

Both F1 and Nascar (i.e. Ecclestone & France) can buy and sell Tony before
breakfast. Nascar doesn't need Indy - its nice to have but not essential and
the same goes for F1 which has a queue of venues begging to be given a race.
Indy does a deal on F1's terms or not at all - witness the sudden jump from
September to June a couple of years ago - a date which could hardly be
called convenient for Indy coming so close after the 500. ISTR it was
reckoned to be going to cost "numb-nuts" an additional $2-$3m a year

I.

Too bad it takes three races to equal what one race had before his "saving of
American racing".

Nor have they for well over 30 years. I'm hardly a Xenophobe
but given that the race takes place IN America almost solely with
drivers that currently have an open-wheel gig in America, I don't
think anyone is or should be terribly concerned by that non issue.

That alone is worth the price of that afore mentioned McDonalds hamburger.
and he has F1

Yup, you are right. He grandfather would roll in his grave if he knew what he
was doing to his beloved track he worked so hard to build.

Forsythe wishes he could buy such hype.

Say, when *IS* the U. S. 500 ?

Has CART gone out of business *AGAIN* ?

Have heard much about it.

Too bad you can't even comprehend the meaning of "increased
tremendously". It is for such reasons that your posts continue to
clearly demonstrate, beyond any conceivable doubt or hope, that
you're much too stupid for anyone to any longer even consider either
continuing a dialog with or posting a single additional response to.

And as always, you slander the poster and when confronted with an opinion or
fact that does not conform to your preconcieved ideas.

Keep your head in the sand, old boy.
