Minardi drops Australian GP legal action
Minardi owner and team boss Paul Stoddart has dropped his legal action
against Australian Grand Prix stewards and the team has hastily
modified its 2004 car to conform to 2005 aerodynamic regulations. It
had already been upgraded to meet 2005 safety requirements.

Stoddart claimed that he had proved his point that F1 needs to be
governed better merely by securing the court injunction allowing him
to run his cars in 2004 aerodynamic spec. Australian Grand Prix
stewards had earlier denied Minardi's intention to compete with last
year's car.

"I think it was a landmark decision that the court actually saw fit to
uphold the law as opposed to the FIA's regulations," Stoddart said.
"There was no point in us continuing this beyond proving the point
that we need better governance and stable regulations."

"We don't feel there's anything more to proceed and feel we've taken
it as far as we need to," he went on.

This I don't get... They *can* race a 2005 compliable car... So why were
they trying to run the 2004 car still? Flaming cheats. If any other team
tried that people would be up in arms!

He was trying to prove the point that "No one is above the
law"........his words, not mine.

I don't think any other team could reasonably claim that they would be
between 4-5sec per lap down on all the other teams if running 2004
spec.
As for people being up in arms, he managed to get all the signatures
from the other team bosses, it was just the Steward's interpretation of
the regulations.
Whether he's a tit or whether he's being used by other team bosses or
whatever, I still think Stoddy contributes in a positive way to F1.

F1 has already enough clowns, thank you very much.

It just seems as though they're not quite evenly distributed throughout
the circus. Stoddy is the working man's clown, trying to get as much
ring-time for his trained flea-act as what the lions get. All the other
clowns seem to be holding the whips, selling the tickets, etc.
