Happy birthday all!
I refuse to acknowledge birthdays (well, mine actually) any more, given that in 3 weeks I'll be (gulp!) 60!

Don't worry you get better with age darling.
Well, Paul certainly doesn't look 60. Of course that's assuming he hasn't taken aging pills since last time I met him. But yes, one does get better with age and if it works for Paul, I certainly hope it'll work for me...

Pah, I'll still be under 30 and that means I'll still be young in everyone's eyes.

Aikido has orange belts? Which style is this?>(I've beed doing Aikido for years, but it is white belt till 1st Dan.)>
This depends on dojo rules. In some places, colors are used to show progress, in some others they are not used at all and only the black belt is recognized. In this dojo, the colours have recently been changed and i believe they are now orange, blue-white, blue, green, red, purple. Black is not a belt, of course. Even where colored belts are used, the colours change between various disciplines. For instance orange is a new thing here, as it used to be yellow and in some disciplines it has a striped version which (i think) is higher, yet unlike some others we have blue and white belts which here is actually lower than blue. Don't you just love uniformity ?
I think for the kids' sake it is much better to have colored belts. It allows them to recognize the hierarchy easier and is also a visual incentive to carry on and hopefully reach their black.

Which is completely against the whole spirit of Aikido...

It is certainly not ! You are meant to respect the pecking order in Aikido, just like in virtually all oriental martials arts. Aikido is not a democracy. The spirit of Aikido has nothing to do with this.
