Does anyone know if any of the phone systems in Cozumel support Verizon/Blackberry service?
Also, I saw where one of the dive groups, Aldora, (no flames, please) was going to start dive trips to the windward side of the island. Has anyone dove on that side of the island? Is it worth fighting the wind and waves?

Some independent dive ops have had clients on the eastern side, most will arrange to meet beachside at one of the few places a boat can land rather than make the looong trip around the south end - fuel cost is really high, so expect to pay more ($100/diver/day). Considering the typically rough surface conditions, eastside diving is easily weathered out. Not much to see in the reef sense, but a coupla wrecks that are pretty torn up, currents and viz are unpredictable.

No they do not. Your GSM phone will probably work, at a hideous roaming fee.
