Curacao!

Diver Rick 25 May 2008 04:48:33
A group of us going to Curacao in a few weeks. Staying at the Breezes,
doing 5x days of boat diving, plus a little shore diving. Anyone with
suggestions on favourite dive spots? Any "must sees"? Activity
recommendations?

Can hardly wait!

I've been to Curacao twice, last time in january 2005, have always
stayed and dove at Sunset Waters...GO DIVE MUSHROOM FOREST! Make sure
they take you where there are seahorses too!

That said, the water this trip was siltier than last year due to
unusual rainfall the last few months, i hope it is better for your
trip.

Heading to Curacao in early November. Travelling on AA. I normally have
computer, dive mask, and regulator with carry/on.

These items are still ok???

As long as you don't spit in your mask.

I wonder when they're going to make everyone pee before they go
through security, just in case they ae smuggling something in their
baldder.

Hmm, shouldn't suggest that too loudly.

Just back from 10 days, 9 nights Lions dive resort in Curacao.

Diving was excellent : profile - every dive was 60' 60". Got in 17
dives,
saw squid, turtles, dolphins, sea horse,
plus 1967 pink caddy at the "carpile" dive site(-:

Overall Lions Dive was excellent location, Great beach . Wife doesn't
dive, so worked out well. My dive buddy reached 500 dives on this trip, he
was honorary DM for one dive(ie, alot of laughs).

Breakfast was part of package, had lunch in room and dinner out each
night.

Hints:
1) taxi from airport asked driver to stop at supermarker, picked up
essentials(ie beer, wine, soda , bread and cheese).
2)if you buy duty free on return and have to transfer in miami, "must
place bottles in check-in bags after clearing customs, but before giving
bags to AA. otherwise when passing thru security they will insist you either
dump or go back to AA and place your carry-on into checked luggage. You
can't get to next plane w/o going thru security.

Fred

Wife and I are planning a trip to Curacao in August. We will be staying at
the Marriot resort there since it's free (hotel points) for a week. There
is apparently a dive shop on site that has a PADI 5 Star rating....does
anyone know anything about it (haven't been able to find the name but I
haven't called yet either)? Also how is the diving/vis in August?

Cura ao is a big oil depot...is it Shell? Not sure...but the place is quite
"industrial"...often stop there briefly on my way to Bon Air.

Enjoy!

My wife and I both enjoyed the Marriott. The dive shop and charter
operation (Caribbean Sea Sports, IIRC) are excellent for AOW-level
divers. They sell nitrox if you're certified for it. The dives,
depths, and times are designed to keep you from getting bent whether you
pay attention or not. The underwater scenery and life are great. The
crews were competent, helpful without being intrusive if you knew what
you were doing (e.g., they'd carry gear and tanks but not touch your
gear after you set it up), and friendly.

Unfortunately the Superior Producer dive was on our anniversary, so I
missed it.

If you're somewhat more advanced than AOW or have lots of dives under
your weight belt, consider taking off on your own or finding a
more-advanced dive charter. The diving right off the hotel beach is great.

Can't help with specific information about August. We went in April.
Visibility was 100'+ every day I dove (though at one of two sites on one
day it was probably "only" 75-80').

Have fun...
