Dry suit conversion

Paul Lynch 4 April 2005 18:26:46
Any inputs on converting a military dry suit used for flying over cold water
to a diving dry suit? Is it as simple as installing valves?

Got any information on this suit?

Not really. Government issued drysuit for flying fighters over cold water.
Outer layer is nomex, lined with some waterproof material, standard drysuit
zippers, rubber socks and laytex (?) seals.

Are we talking about these "body bags with a hole for your face" immersion
suits? I think they might be excessively bouyant.

 No, a real dry suit.

I dropped it off at my LDS today for replacing the seals and installing some
used valves. A bit of a gamble, but if it works I save a lot compared to a
new dry suit.

A friend of mine had one of those and he used to use it for working the
safety boat at large sailing events. He said it was a lot more
comfortable than the usual surface drysuits and it did the job well...
