Excuse me if this has been brought up before but after watching the> men's championship I noticed the R1 was on the same side as the> coaches/players. Okay - no problem, probably works better for TV. I didn't get a chance to watch a sub to see if I could pick up> what was happening. I did notice one extra guy sitting on the attack> line (Pepperdine side for game 1). I would assume that he/she would> not be allowed to have any input on anything other than handling subs.>
Any input?
Dunno. Good question.
A PAVO ref that doesn't have to worry about doing matches on national> TV
You and me both.
PS. I could replay the final and check the timer but anyone know how> long the break was between games 2 and 3 for the men's final? And is> that time consistant with 'normal', non-televised matches?
3min is the normal between game interval. That said, though, TV matches, esp live TV matches take a lot of production consideration into intervals. Timeouts are usually the things getting lengthened for TV commercial breaks if modification is done, but 3min is usually quite a bit of time in TV land. I've seen 1R's wired with earpieces to hold for commercial, for instance.
