Wow. Looks like a lot of fun was had. Are those flames on your armour,
and if so did you put them there? They're very funky.

Many young riders ride
with their regular underwear, usually boxer shorts. Bad Idea. The
problem you discussed may be alleviated by wearing some sort of

Nope, We did the Amassa Back Trail, which is a 5mile up and down trail.
Downhill was much more fun, because it was, well, downhill, vs up.

I just checked out my own photos and they just jump right off the
screen! Suddenly I'm back in Moab - I can't believe I'm actually back at
home. Why did I leave?

I am working on a gallery of the best shots and will post it soon. I
guess I just wanted to get notified anytime someone else posts photos.
Thanks for sharing so fast!

What a weekend.

Well I have some photos, and few little viddies!

The wierdest part is..... not one riding shot! Hehe.. You see, I took
my video cam on the trial, so I only took photos during the dinners and
the driving, etc. Enjoy some bizarre stuff!

Beware, one of the photos of Lars (from Denmark), might cause a heart
attack!

Awesome weekend! Thank you everyone!

Later,

We arrived around 3pm Friday afternoon, missing the main Friday ride,
but in time to go ride a bit of the Poisen Spider trail. Saturday with a
HUGE group, we did the Practice Loop and the Main Loop of the famous
Slickrock Trail - perfect conditions too. Sunday we rode Amassa Back
again, and also perfect conditions again. Monday, we drove back to Salt
Lake City and flew home.

It was great to see many people from Denmark and even Tak from Japan -
as well as people from all over the US and Canada. What a great weekend.
I wish it could've been a week.

Here's a link to 46 of the better photos we took:
http://community.webshots.com/album/314897838KJRyVc

I'll attach a small version of the group shot as someone asked about
it.

THANKS Rolf and Janeen for organizing and everyone else for coming and
riding.

It was really cool to see the young girls riding! Irene was rippin it up
as usual. And of course, the level of determination by everyone was
immense. Wish I could have stayed for the whole thing.

Heres a link to the Denver Post edition, (different from above link) the
reason why I post this, is for you all (if your interested) to read the
two articles below the MMF article, on the Ski Patrol Convention that I
put together at Aspen Highlands. Todays Denver Post had both the MMF and
Ski Patrol articles side by side, it was sweet.

Awesome organization of the event again by the Thompsons!

Cheers.

Thanks for all the pictures, everybody. Its great to compile these all
together.

I totally agree with Tom, I didn't know how much happier I was in Moab
until I got back and had to go to work. I feel so revitalized. I'll be
living off of Moab jazz for a while.

Everybody who was in my carpool, it was awesome hanging out with you
guys. Nathan, there are no words to describe how much I appreciate the
use of the shower on sunday. Camping was awesome, though. That was an
incredible location and it was great hanging out with everybody there.

I look forward to many more events like this, as long as people like

That spot is called "Jacobs Ladder" and isn't really considered to be
ridable. (although Kris said it was "totally ridable") The rider is
Corbin who has been riding for about a year. There's a good reason I put
down my uni and picked up my camera here.

Actually, according to the map I was looking at it's called "Jackson's

On Monday I went to the Moab visitor center, trying to figure out
exactly where I'd ridden on Amasa Back the day before, and the map they
had called it "Jackson's Ladder." It also called the singletrack on the
other side of the Amasa Back trail "Jackson's Trail" or something like
that, but I think the local bikers call that section "Death On Your
Left," so there is probably a difference between the official name and
the common name.

There are poisonous snakes in the American southwest, but nothing nearly
as dangerous as you'll find in Australia. Despite plenty of riding in
rattlesnake country, I have never seen one in the wild; they tend to
avoid humans, and aren't really terribly poisonous if you wind up
getting bitten anyway. You're probably more likely to get stung by a
scorpion, but scorpion stings (I'm told) are just like a bad bee sting,
unless you're allergic.

Yeah, I saw that too. Maybe it just got morphed in the usage, because
Jacob's Ladder has deeper historical context and brand awareness.

I remember it being Jacob's, too. At Moab 2004 I tried it, and I would
say it's semi-ridable. Most of it is doable, but in some spots the costs
for failure are pretty high, making them not worth it.

We should have a super hi-res photo of the group shot in Moab soon. My
friend Michael Hurst was shooting 13 Meg photos all around the practice
loop. He's a real pro. He is processing RAW format photos and preping
everything prior to posting. My photos will be up real soon as well.
Keep posting your photo links. I am preparing a photo links page for
MMF05 at www.moabmunifest.com which should be up within a day, maybe
even by tonight if the rain here keeps up.

Stay vertical.

Re. Adrenalina TV. They were scheduled to come to MMF05 but two days
before the crew let me know they had been reassigned to something going
on in Mexico. Short of a volcano erupting I don't know what would be
more interesting but then I am a bit biased. Thats the story.

I would have done more to get local coverage of the event had
Adrenalina not expressed plans to cover it. As it turned out we got
neither. Actually, from my perspective it was kind of nice not being
pestered and side-tracked by too many media types. Perhaps next year
we'll turn their heads a bit harder...

Just trying to get my photos posted but need some help with some names.
In first photo (51) does anyone know the guy on the left. In the second
photo (58) does anyone know the guy in the red. Once I figure that out
I can post. Thanks.

I notice there's a place called "Poison Spider Mesa" nearby... :)

But then, there's another spot which appears to be called "Three
Penguins", so the names may not be strictly accurate. I'm trying to
avoid thinking about what is at "Elephant Butte"...

I had to get through a backlog of previous pictures, but mine are
finally posted!
http://unicycling.smugmug.com/gallery/489732
140-or-so photos there!

I will follow with an album of Arches National Park and Castle Valley.
We went to Castle Valley after the Sunday ride. The "Krazy Karl" cliff,
which we viewed from below, had snow on it!

I disciplined myself to get through my backlog first, because last year
when I did my Moab pictures out of order it screwed up my production
process, and some photos ended up getting lost.

Remember:
at Smugmug, where my pictures are hosted, you can view the pictures at a
larger size, and you can order prints in a huge range of sizes, all the
way up to 24 x 36! If you want a digital copy of one of the shots in
there, send me an email with an easy way for me to see which one(s) you
want.
