Chloor

Bernard 27 April 2005 00:03:45
As triathlete I swim in and outside.
I try to swim a full1/2 hour a day crawl as training.
When I am swimming inside in the 25m pool I am tired to death every time.
I tought it was of the intensity of the workout.
Today I swimmed only 10 minutes at noon and I have the same problem: whole
afternoon serious fatigue.
Is it maybe because of the chloor in the air at the pool???
When I am swimming outside in summer then I have the feeling that I am not
that fatigued and soor.
Please advice,

Bernard
P.S. Sorry of my poor english

Is the water temperature of the indoor pool higher? Sometimes indoor
pools are heated to above 28C, which is too warm for training. That
would cause the fatigue you are feeling.

If the pool chemistry is within the correct limits, it is not likely the
chlorine is the problem.

If there is poor ventilation in the pool room, I think the cholorine in
the air could account for the fatigue. Does your chest feel congested
afterward? A very hot pool or too much exposure to florescent lights
could also explain some of the fatigue.

Maybe not just the chlorine but the water vapor too. I've never
experienced this in a pool, but in a steamy hot tub the moist air can
leave me feeling short of breath.
