Steve:
You know how it is said that the jetting is set up for general use? And a sled is factory clutched for general use?
Well, I can't help but wonder if a clutch kit isn't set up for general use too!
How could Joe's Racing Inc. clutch kit know how much I weigh, how I ride, or what I expect from the kit?
I really believe that a clutch kit is general. Higher engagement spring, a little more weight, a new helix and charge 'em $200! Proper clutching is a true science, ask any racer.
What I would do is ride your new sled stock, get a feel for it. Then, if you feel a need to "fine tune" a certain characteristic, find a clutch tuner. If the mechanic just says, we'll put a kit in it, tell him I'll see you later. If he says, it sounds like all you need is a spring with a little less finish to solve that problem, THAT'S your guy!
Then, for $18 you have a clutch kit, a happy sled, and a happy rider!

That's easy. I'd buy a stud and be the envy of all my girlfriends. Sad to say though, there's very few of them up here. Sue Minocqua, WI Yamaha '00 VStar 650 (old reliable) '04 TW200 (mud = fun) Kawasaki '95 Vulcan 1500 (new friend)

Gary is DEAD on with this one.... You should mark your clutches with a black marker (sheaves? and see how high the belt is going to the top on the primary and haw far down in the secondary....... You really need to play around with things.... a good off the shelf kit would be one from Dan and the Outdoor Shop.... Myself I prefer to tinker with the clutches and make subtle changes instead of this that and everything else all at once.... that way you know where your headed with the adjustments instead of saying.... "yeah, it's got a clutch kit in it and I THINK it's better/faster"

Well i guess i'll stud it. I'll need studs anyway, any opinions on what make and size, pattern? Track is 1" and i ride in New England. Thanks Steve in Ct
Woody's push thru Gold Diggers, go with a light weight backer such as aluminum round or plastic Diamond Backers...... I had this set up (Diamond Backers... green in color) on my ZRT 800's some years back and NEVER regretted it.

I'll second Jeff, same brands I'm using in my REV and my Poo. Expect 5-6k miles of wear from the studs. That's what I'm seeing in my Poo. Zero problems in either sled. Diamond backers have been excellent and are my only choice for a backer. -- John "anything you say can & will be misquoted & used against you" '01 FLHR ''Red" '04 MXZ 600ho '99 XC700 BRC mem "Jeff B" <jefjulday@adelphia.net> wrote in message news:2JednZPDEceLxerfRVn-1Q@adelphia.com...> Woody's push thru Gold Diggers, go with a light weight backer such as > aluminum round or plastic Diamond Backers......
