Got a ?..I have the opportunity to pick up a '03 F-7, with about 500 miles on it. From a dealer, seems to be in excellent condition. Whats a fair price that you should expect? I dont believe it has reverse, and no studs. Given, its another year older, etc...
The asking price is around 4500....but I said I'd do it for 4K.
Any thoughts? Pro's/Con's ? Is the '03 as solid as its current firecats?
I know a lot of guys that had reliability problems with the 03's. It's said that 05 it the first good year.

Find out if it has had all the updates and recalls looked after. The biggest problem that I recall hearing about was a difficult to bleed cooling system that caused overheating and piston failures. If you go to Hardcoresledder.com they should have a listing of the Firecat recalls in the Firecat forum. It is like any sled, some guys had multiple problems and others put 7 - 8000 miles on without a single issue. If I remember correctly there were quite a few service bulletins for the 03.

Wes is 100% dead on here..... if it had the updates and was well cared for you'll enjoy the sled. Easy to find out, run the vin # into your Cat dealer and he SHOULD be able to pull the history up as far as updates go...... They are VERY nice sleds....

I run with an 03 EFI and two 04 EFI's one of the 04's is a sno pro. They all run great and are reliable. The one I ride with the most always starts on the second pull. Cat has there EFI down pat. I've never ridden with a carbed F7 though and you didn't mention EFI so I don't know much about the carbed.

Some people get the good ones, my buddies 04 EFI 700 only has 800 miles on it and it has been to the dealer so many times and it still isn't right. It stumbles and grumbles and runs like crab, last trip to the dealer they told him to change the belt, bunch of dumb asses, anyway had to humor them but guess what.........no difference.
