Vets Head (UK)

Vesta Veterans Head 28 February 2005 15:45:48

A quick reminder that the entries for this year's Vets Head (March 20th)
close this coming weekend - entries welcome via OARA or on normal entry
forms. Details on the website; http://www.vrc.org.uk/vets_head/

FISA age ranges, which means anyone who will be at least 27 this year is
eligible!

Worth mentioning that, like the Vets 4s Head, this event now runs from
Mortlake to Putney (not vice versa).

I think they do it on either the rising or the falling tide depending
on the time - the aim being to have the race in the morning, to allow
visiting crews time to drive home on the sunday afternoon - in 2004 the
tide times would have meant a Mortlake to Putney run would have been
impossibly early in the morning, or very late afternoon (possibly even
too late to run).

Ah, that would explain it. Always thought it was a bit odd.

This year it goes 'the right way' (i.e. so long as you're not an > ex-Blue), but it isn't always that way.

Perhaps not to members of any of the clubs upstream of Chiswick Bridge ;-)

Bang on, because a lot of the competitors will have travelled down for > the Eight's Head the day before - and we normally attract a decent > foreign contingent - we always try for the race to be late morning so > that those coming from further afield will be able to travel home > without it being too ludicrously late on their return.

oh - and for years I thought it was just because the Vesta bar didn't
open for post-race, pre-results beer until 12noon!

The Vesta bar not opening until noon? I think some of the regulars would
have a heart attack if they had to wait that late, race day or normal
weekend!
