autococker features: what to buy?

Bruce Chang 14 April 2005 02:20:46
I've been looking more into buying an autococker, mainly for the sake of
having something to tinker with. I'm looking to get something that's used
and preferably something cheaper but still a good marker. What kind of
features should I look for and how much should I be spending. Ideally I'd
like to spend less than $150. I'm more of a woodsball kind of guy but when
we're at our local field, a lot of the fields are speedball type fields:
spools, corrugated aluminum, small bunkers, an old western town, etc.

I'm not necessarily interested in getting something electric though I
wouldn't mind having it. Of course I know electronics cost more. I'd also
rather keep something that runs on CO2 but that's not a necessity as I could
upgrade to HPA or N2.

I guess another pertinent question is what should I avoid? Any particular
models that are better than others? Are the newer ones any better than the
older ones?

I know the trilogy ones are out but as far as opinions here go, they aren't
as upgradeable as a non-trilogy cocker. I figure I'll stay away from them.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/opinions.

-Bruce

I use an Odyssey O3 Mechanical or O3m for short. Mine has worked flawlessly
for me since the day I bought it. The price is right(you can find them on
Ebay cheap). I paid $150 new for each of the 2 I own. Plus they take
autococker parts.

As far as your air system is concerned I would definately go HPA or N2. CO2
has a tendancy to freeze the 3way and ram on an autococker. Again look to
Ebay for bargains on tanks.

32 Degrees has the Superbolt, I'm not sure of the specs and performance
there. Dragun has the Dragunfly which takes some cocker parts and some
Spyder parts. I own a Dragunfly and I like it.

Good luck!

Cockers to stay away from are those that have been "upgraded" by people who
don't know what they're doing. The more accessories and aftermarket parts
that have been bolted on, the more likely there is to be trouble. Guns with
radical milling etc. that are being offered real cheap are often a bad sign,
a gun that should be expensive and is for sale at a suspiciously low price
might be a paperweight somebody is trying to get rid of, i.e. an eBay
Special.

Totally stay away from the 32 Deg./Psycho Ballistics made-in-China "Cocker,"
a pain in the butt.

Yeah, Jeff's the mod. You might want to apologize or you won't be able
to post here anymore.

Why should I apologise, he allowed a post of vileness and vulgarity aimed at
me. With only a "that was uncalled for" responce. If I am expected to have
thick skin, so then should he.
