I need to pick the brains of you more experienced paitballers due to 2 different problems I am having. Any help appreciated!
1) My A-5 has a J&J Ceramic (12") and is shooting all over the place! The paintballs come out the barrel and maybe one in 5 goes straight. The other 4 of 5 make incredible turns and curves. This happens with comressed air (simple screw in Crossfire) and with Co2. I have cleaned the barrel over and over and all seems ok with it. The marker has been used only a few times and the barrel is new, only one day of play. I am using Draxxus paintballs currently. Is there a certain paintball the goes better with the A-5 and/or the Ceramic barrel? How can I straighten out my shots?
2) My son's Custom 98 is very difficult to ajdust for fps. I can turn the adjustment screw either way a very long ways (once it actually screwed all the way out!) and still have a hard time getting under 300fps. This has also been with HPA and Co2. How can I get this thing to adjust properly?
I agree with Jeff. Bad paint or old paint. Try a batch of fresh evils and I bet your results will be much better. Also turning the velocity screw out (or counter clockwise) will increase the FPS on a 98 custom. Turning it in (or clockwise) will decrease the velocity. Try turning it all the way in one more time and chrono from there. If that fails to produce results follow Jeffs advice.

Good point. And if and when cutting springs becomes the action to take, clip ONLY a single "ring" at a time, and try it out until it's down to the point you need it. There would be nothing worse than snipping off 10 spring "rings" to find that now you're shooting at 200 and there isn't anything you can do about it except cry that your gun is worse now than it was before.

You must be losing your touch. Two people right in a ROW agreed with you. I'll be puttin my skates on Ebay tonight as surely someone in hell will be looking for a pair.
Don't use WalMart specials. Stay> away from anything by Brass Eagle and DrAxxus Inferno. Excuse me. Scorch, not Inferno. Can't remember at the moment if DrAxxus does make one called Inferno, but most of DrAxxus' stuff is at least decent quality. Scorch is just made to be cheap as hell, and the seams are HUGE.

Somehow I turned from outcast pariah to knowledgable expert in the eyes of> the lurkers. I am not quite sure how that happened. ;)
I've taken a few days off USEnet.

I believe this ricochet theory was tested by AGD a long time ago. There was video involved and I remember watching it. What it boiled down to was that even in a HUGE barrel balls did not ricochet, they just simply rolled down the barrel and went on their merry way
