I'm trying to wrap my head around these peculiar College Terminus open
results. Someone please explain to me how this happens:

In one power pool NC State goes winless--but then ends up winning the
tournament.

In the other power pool Boston U goes undefeated--but then gets blown
away in the pre-quarters.

Huh?

 another "huh?" situation from Terminus:

Tournament cap rules from TD:

"Cap rules (can't ever be mentioned too many times).
One horn: start the round.
Two horn blows: soft cap. Finish point add 2. Will happen 20 minutes
before the next round.
Three horn blows: time cap. Finish point and game is over unless tied.
5
minutes before next round."

In quarters Pitt was up 11-9 on NC State. During play that point, the
three horn cap blows (this is labeled a 'time cap' above, but is
referred to as a 'hard cap' by the UPA [VA2C]). NC State scores the
goal to make the score Pitt 11 -NC State 10 . At this point I go over
to the two observers b/c the game should be over. They insist that it
is still a game to 12 (as they had deemed it correctly under the soft
cap earlier). The TD is not in sight, the observers and State want to
get the game moving (observer's still insisting I'm wrong on the cap
rules, saying that they did not play the cap rule I was stating on
Saturday). State gets the turn, Snoke throws an upwind huck goal, then
they get the downwinder to win 12-11.

After the game the TD agrees with us, but we arent about to go into
semi's winning that way. It was pretty frustrating that the observers
didnt know the cap rules. I dont mean to call them out, because they
were just volunteering, and I was glad to have observers for the couple
games that we did have them. Additionally, this being our first time
to Terminus we loved it and hope to come back in the future. This was
just a really frustrating situation for a 16 seed who thought that they
had made semi's.

Congrats to NC State, they came through in the end and battled back
after we jumped out to a lead. Thanks to Teddy and everyone at AFDC
for a well run tournament, and thanks to the observers for honestly
trying their best and just making an honest mistake.

just had to get out a little frustration there...

Just posting the rules from the 10th since people don't seem to know them.
Also, PLEASE note that there are timeouts in cap according to the UPA rules.
They are only removed if the tournament gets rid of them. -Brody

UPA 10th edition:
a.. Caps: Maximum score limits imposed before or during a game to limit the
time required to declare a winner. The game ends when one team's score first
reaches the cap.
1.. A SOFT CAP is a maximum score limit imposed before the event
2.. A TIME CAP is a maximum score limit imposed during a game once a
predetermined time of play has elapsed and after the current scoring attempt
is completed.
3.. A HARD CAP is the ending of the game once a predetermined time of game
has elapsed and after the current scoring attempt is completed. If the score
is tied, the teams play until one additional goal is scored.

 Hallo,

Hmm. Two responses:
Three horn blows: time cap. Finish point and game is over unless tied.> 5> minutes before next round."
After the game the TD agrees with us, but we arent about to go into> semi's winning that way.

No, you won the way you were supposed to under the cap rules--the
same as every other team playing would have won in the same situation.
What happened after your win to screw things up has nothing to do with
it.
It was pretty frustrating that the observers> didnt know the cap rules. I dont mean to call them out, because they> were just volunteering,

Not an excuse for such an incompetent call. Of course, I've no idea
why you went to the observers as the game was over. If there was doubt
on part of the opposing team, that's what the TD is for (and if the TD
isn't readily available, you go look for him).

Finals was university school of nashville over Cheltenham Highschool

i think the rankings went something like

USN
Cheltenham
Woodward
Fox Chapel

but i could be wrong. Dont you remeber Reed? no one pays attention to
highschool other than the kids who play it.
