Wax for speedflyte cables? And chemicals that harm speed-flyte cables?

Rick 27 March 2005 17:07:38

Qn: Should I wax my speed-flyte cables on my compound bow? Any
specific kind of wax - or can I be a lazy skinflint and use candle
wax?

Qn2: Are there any glues I should keep away from speed-flyte cables?
i.e., superglue, fletch-tite glue etc.?

'Scuse my spelling.. thanks

I cannot find these but if gel spun polyethylene they should be chemically
inert to all the stuff you mention. Wax protects against abrasion and
probably any would do but I would use those recommended by equipment
manufacturers.

I regularly was my cables and I like BROWNELL WAX STICK. Wax keeps the
cables from fraying and provides lubrication for the fibers.

Just an observation, I've found that there are often breaks in the
fibers under spots where fletch tite was used to seal tie sites such as
kissers etc. so I don't recommend use of any glues on strings or cables.

You are correct. I was thinking chemistry but the material as a solid glue
could cause abrasion.
I think this is why Kevlar never took off as a bow string because fiber to
fiber abrasion is poor whereas it is not a problem with polyethylene.
